This Term's Learning:

Welcome to Year 2 everyone, we are so excited for this year and we can't wait to watch you all grow this year. That is why our first unit of work will be all about growing. Our first unit is called 'How Will I Grow?' and is built around the theme of Acceptance and kindness.' We will be working together this term to build our very own 'Garden of Hope' and we will be getting our green fingers ready. Our key text for the first 4 weeks will be, 'The Secret Sky Garden' by Linda Sarah. The Secret Sky Garden is about a young girl called Funni who lives in a boring town full of rubbish and derelict buildings. She decided to plant and grow her very own garden to help cheer her up.

We will be studying this book closely in English and we will be using lots of 'book talk' to help us re-build our confidence and stamina with our writing. Within maths, we will be looking at place value, we will briefly recap numbers to 50 before moving onto numbers up to 100. We will be focusing on Science and PSHE for this unit. In Science, we will be observing how seeds mature into bulbs and plants and investigating the perfect conditions for growth. In PSHE we will be looking at our dreams and goals for the year and how to work together to achieve this and work together to plant our 'Garden of Hope'. In Art, we will be developing our observational drawing skills and explore tones and shades of flower petals. Within music, we will be creating wind chimes to help us think about pitch and we will be looking at how music makes us feel.
