TOPICS THIS YEAR!
We will be exploring lots of new and exciting topics in Year 3 and you can find out what these will be below:
Belonging (creating a sense of school community again)
Rock around the Clock
We will learn all about the Stone age, Bronze age and Iron age. Activities include flint knapping, cave painting and exploring lots of different fossils.
We will learn about rivers, mountains, plants and do some weaving.
Veni, Vidi, Vici (I came, I saw, I conquered)
We will learn all about the Romans and hopefully go on a trip to Chedworth Villa.
Our P.E days are Monday afternoons (inside for dance) and Friday mornings (also in the hall).
When children have P.E., they will come into school in their P.E. kits. Please can long hair be tied up on these days and earrings out or tape provided.
In terms 5 and 6, we hope to go swimming. We would really appreciate willing parents to help us walk to and from Kingswood Leisure centre! Information regarding this will be given nearer the time.
Your child will participate in Forest school sessions every other Wednesday afternoon. Forest school dates will carry on from Term 4 with each class alternating weekly.
Please ensure your child has the appropriate kit in school. This includes waterproof clothes/ old clothes to wear and wellies.
Term 4 forest schools dates
We would still like to encourage you to use Bug Club at home to read with your child. Please make sure you still write in their reading record when you have read with them!
Please make sure your child reads at least five times a week. When your child has read, please comment in their record and initial the reading incentive card on the back page. When your child reads 30 times, they will receive a certificate, 50 times a bookmark and 100 times, they will be able to choose a special book from Mrs Haydon's office.
If your child is in Badgers class, reading records will be collected in and checked every Friday. If your child is in Bats class, reading records will currently be collected in and checked on a Monday.
Please look here for questions we recommend asking your children whilst reading:
Times table Rockstars and Mathletics
Your child has been sent home with a username and password for both Times table Rockstars and Mathletics. We highly recommend both of these programmes and encourage your child to go on them frequently at home as well as in school.
Your child will bring home a termly spelling sheet with the spelling pattern that will be looked at each week. We will be doing work in school during the week and the test will be the following Monday. Please help your child at home with these spelling patterns. Thank you.
