PSFA events planning meeting
Our next meeting is at the King William pub on Wednesday 17th April at 7pm.
We would love to see you there!
Dear parent/carers,
Thank you for your support with World Book Day yesterday. We had an amazing time and we couldn’t have done it without you! There are lots of photos on our twitter feed @tyningsschool and we have also included some on today’s newsletter.
The potato book characters were truly impressive – we had Harry Potter, Mr and Mrs Twit, the Big Bad Wolf and the Three Little Pigs, Mathilda and many, many more, Key Stage winners will be announced in Monday’s assembly. We also enjoyed bedtime stories and hot chocolate last night; there is truly nothing better than being cosy in your pyjamas listening to a great story. The children really appreciated the hot chocolate served by the PSFA. This helped the evening to feel really special. Thank you, PSFA.
Did you know every class in the school now has a recognition board? There is a different behaviour focus each week, and the children who show this great behaviour have their names recorded on the board. Next week’s focus is to use kind words to each other. The staff will be looking out for all the children who do this so we can celebrate their kindness and respect of each other. It would be great if parents/carers could also emphasise this at home.
Have a great week!
Angela Berger, Deputy Headteacher
There were some wonderful entries for the potato dressed as a superhero! Here are just some of them.
Deer class enjoyed a story from Councillor Ian Boulton, while PCSO Sarah read to Kingfishers.
Deer class also had an exciting day, with lots of different activities, all based on books by Julia Donaldson.
As next week is sport relief week, we thought we would include various sport relief related activities to our weekly timetables.
Every classes PSHE lesson will teach the children about sport relief, how it began and who benefits from the money raised. Children will also take part in various fun, active activities outside during this session.
During a PE session, children will try 2 new activies. New Age Kurling (which is similar to the curling you see at the winter Olympics) and Boccia.
On Friday, we are asking that children come into school wearing PE kit as it is sport relief day, in return for a small donation to the charity.
During the afternoon, we will run a teachers vs pupils New Age Kurling or Boccia tournament in the hall. Each class will have one child and one adult represented.
Weather permitting, we will also be taking part in a sport relief mile. This will be 4 laps of the school grounds. This can be run, walked, hopped, however you like as long as the children (and adults) are on their feet and active.
We are sure it will be a really fun and active week for both children and staff!
Thanks, Mr Griffiths
The last 2 weeks we have been practising a sheet bend knot, allowing a sheet with no corner holes to be secured with a rope etc in shelter making. Both children and adults have had varying degrees of success with this!
The weather has been mixed and we really have appreciated all of those families who have supplied their children with appropriate clothing, it does make a huge difference. Please remember hats etc if it stays chilly.
Next week's classes:
Monday - Fox
Tuesday - Kingfisher and Hedgehog
Wednesday - Rabbit and Pine Marten
Book recommendations for this week, come from Mrs Say, Mrs Davis and Mrs Symons.
Mrs Say enjoys 'The Snail and the Whale' by Julia Donaldson & Alex Scheffler
"I would recommend this book because, like the snail, I love to travel. Although lots of his friends try to tell him to stay put, the snail decides otherwise. This unlikely pair set off in search of an adventure. A wonderful rhyming book for young children."
Mrs Davis is reading 'The Last Tree' by Emily Haworth-Booth
"We have been sharing this book with the children in forest activities this week. The book is about people who need to find a home. When they find a forest, they think they have found the ideal place to settle, that is until they start to use the trees. Even though this book was an accidental find it has become one of my favourites and is a great reminder that sometimes us adults should take time to be more like our children."
Mrs Symons recommends 'StoryWorld' by John & Caitlin Matthews
"This marvellous book arrives in a box with 40 storyworld cards, with a myriad of characters, places and objects. I love the phoenix's eternal flame, the well of memory and the secret talisman."
Staple Hill library invite you to join them for theme based creative building fun at their Lego Club.
The clubs will be held on Saturday 14th March, Saturday 18th April and Saturday 16th May from 10.30 am until 11.30 am. It's free to attend, but all children must be accompanied by a grown up.
