Dear parents and carers
Hopefully you will have seen the consultation we sent out on Monday, explaining that we are consulting our families and community about a proposal to become an academy (forming a new primary Trust known as ‘The Leaf Trust’). The flyer for the proposal with links to further information is available via the link:
https://thetynings.schoolzineplus.co.uk/_file/media/5888/consultation_leaflet_with_links_v3.pdf
As part of the consultation process, we are holding two sessions where we will provide more information. The dates are
Tuesday 11th October 6.30pm
Friday 14th October 9.00am
If you plan to attend either of these sessions please email [email protected] – this will help us know how many to expect.
To provide us with your views about this proposal you can complete a questionnaire by 3pm Friday 11th November 2022. https://forms.office.com/r/eSfwfetc8d
Thanks for taking an interest – the governors and leadership team are interested to hear your thoughts
Parent Consultation Evenings and Open Mornings
We will be holding parent consultation evenings on Wednesday 19th October and Thursday 20th October. The booking system for these sessions will go live from Monday 10th October.
We will also be holding two open sessions where you are welcome to come into school to look at your child’s work with them. These will be Tuesday 18th October and Wednesday 19th October
Show Racism the Red Card
To support this initiative, at the request of one of our Y6 children, and to tie in with our assembly theme of Black History month, we will be holding a ‘wear it red’ day on Friday 21st October. This is quite easy for us, with our uniform, but other items of clothing are also acceptable, as long as they are red! This is a charitable event, so if you would like to make a donation please send this into school.
Discos day and afterschool clubs.
Due to the glow discos next Thursday 13th October, all clubs except Lego and mud pie are cancelled. Thank you.
We hear from Mrs Berger and Robin class this week, with their book reviews.
Mrs Berger recommends 'The great Telephone Mix Up' by Sally Nicholls
"Looking for a great, dyslexia-friendly book? You can’t go wrong with ‘The Great Telephone Mix-Up’. Little Gems is a series of books which are designed to support dyslexic readers – dyslexic-friendly font is used, the paper is pastel coloured, and the text is well-spaced out. ‘The Great Telephone Mix-Up’ is a first chapter book for young readers. Arthur, the central character, is a young boy who has just moved to a new village. He isn’t there long before there is a thunderstorm and the telephone lines are hit by lightning. The telephone company come to repair the telephone lines but, unfortunately, they connect the lines to the wrong phones. There follows lots of very confusing, mixed-up conversations. Luckily, Arthur comes to the rescue… Funny, charming – a story not to be missed!"
Mrs McNeill reviews 'The Most important animal of all' by Penny Worms and illustrated by Hannah Bailey
"This is a book from the Year 2 list of recommended reads. I chose the book because our topic includes learning about animals. I was pleasantly surprised, it is a brilliant book! It is about a class of children, who take it in turns to persuade their classmates which animal is the most important of all. Their opinions are formed from many fascinating facts.
I really liked that many of their arguments were based around climate change and sustainability. I felt that my class have learnt a lot about each of these important animals. The illustrations are fantastic and I love all the photographs that have been included. I highly recommend this book as an interesting, exciting and informative read!"
Kris from Robins class enjoys 'The Way Back Home' by Oliver Jeffers
"I like it because they both get on the moon. I like the way they help each other to get off. I like the way the boy remembers about the Alien being still stuck on the moon. It makes me feel happy!"
On Saturday 1st October, over 20 children from the K@M4E Art & Comic club started by two year 6 students at The Tynings Primary School, joined the Mayor of West of England Combined Authorities (WECA), Mayor Dan Norris, in the Nature and Mass planting challenge event at K@M4E Community Hub and Siston Commons.
At the hub, the children presented their Art work about caring for our planet to the mayor and later worked with him planting wild flowers at Siston Commons to support pollinators such as bees.
The children and their families were all proud of their work. Well done to you all…!
The mayor was pleased to see how talented the children were and engaged in a very good conversation. The picture is now proudly hung in the office next to the board room.
On Saturday 8th October, there will be a free clothes bank event happening at Staple Hill, Methodist Church, between 10.00 am and 2.00 pm.
