Dear parents and carers
I can’t believe we are already at the end of term one! I hope that you have enjoyed the opportunity to talk to class teachers and look at children’s learning during our open events and parent consultations. It was fantastic to see so many of you, and to see the many happy faces leaving the building after you met with teachers! Thank you for your continued support.
Show Racism the Red Card
Thank you for your support today with our ‘Show racism the red card’ initiative; this was introduced to us by one of our Y6 children who is passionate about football! So far we have raised £201.00. We have also being talking about racism and what it means in our school assemblies, as we have had small number of incidents where some of our children have made negative comments about another child’s skin colour. We have made it very clear to all involved, that this is not acceptable in our school, and your support today helps us to keep getting this message across.
LEAF Trust Consultation
As well as the newsletter, today you should have received a letter from me to remind you about the consultation we are currently having. There is also an updated version of the ‘frequently asked questions’ following all of the schools having their consultation meetings for parents. If you have any further questions, just ask, either via email or in person. Please take part in the consultation!
Parent forum
Our next parent forum meeting will take place on Friday 11th November, at 8.50 in the hall. This is an opportunity to come and chat with me about our school, and share your thoughts and ideas. One of the issues we are seeing in school is swearing – I would be really interested in your thoughts and support on how we can best stop this!
If you feel that there is an issue which you need to discuss, please don’t forget the first port of call should always be your class teacher.
Annual Education Support in Educational Settings Survey
Annual Education Support in Educational Settings Survey
We are currently working in collaboration with South Glos Parent Carers to collate feedback on the education support services children receive within South Gloucestershire. This will enable us to hear as many voices as we can and ensure validity of the data we receive – which is vital for shaping future services.
Who Is This For?
This is for Parent Carers of any child with SEN, whether or not their child has a diagnosis.
How Participation Benefits Parent Carers
Participating in this survey will help to provide a picture on the effectiveness of the SEN support your child receives. This information will be compared to answers provided in previous years and help to provide a clear picture of what is currently working and what areas may need improvement. The more feedback we receive – good or bad – will be used to help shape future SEN provision.
Where Can Parent Carers Find the Survey?
We are hosting the survey via Survey Monkey and the direct link is SUPPORT IN EDUCATION SETTINGS 2022 Survey (surveymonkey.co.uk) or it can be typed (or copied & pasted) directly into a search bar as www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/SGPC_EDU_2022
Survey Closing Date
31st October 2022 (midnight)
Survey Prize Draw
Parent Carers who complete the survey may enter a termly prize draw to win £25 of amazon vouchers.
Where Can Parent Carers View Results?
Results will be shared with all members of South Glos Parents Carers and education services.
Who Are South Glos Parents Carers (SGPC)?

This week, Otters, Kingfishers and Hedgehogs give their book reviews.
Mrs Board recommends ‘Running Wild’ by Michael Morpurgo.
"It is an epic and heart-rending jungle adventure that I am thoroughly enjoying reading to my son.
It is about a boy and his mum who are on holiday in Indonesia when the tsunami hits the shores. The elephant Will is riding on begins acting strangely, shying away from the sea and Oona begins to run. Except that when the tsunami is gone, Oona just keeps on running. With nothing on his back but a shirt and nothing to sustain him but a bottle of water, Will must learn to survive deep in the jungle. Luckily, though, he's not completely alone! He's got Oona."
Lily from Otters class enjoys ‘Dirty Bertie, Toothy!’ by David Roberts and Alan Macdonald.
"I recommend it because it is really funny and has three stories in one book. My favourite bit is the summer school day (too hot). I especially like the illustrations as they are really good. Mrs Boot and Bertie are my favourite characters."
Mrs Britton reviews 'The Train to Impossible Places' by P G Bell
"The Impossible Postal Express is no ordinary train. It is a troll-operated delivery service that runs everywhere from ocean-bottom shipwrecks, to Trollville, to space. The book has a magical and unique story line and endearing characters. As I read, I found myself having my own dilemma of whom I could and should trust in this story. Full of adventure, magic and friendship, there were some brilliant twists in the tale and the ending was especially unexpected!"
Emily from Kingfishers recommends 'The Hobbit' by J R R Tolkein
"'The Hobbit' is a very long book and the start of the story 'Lord of the Rings' trilogy. The main character is a Hobbit called Bilbo Baggins. He is a small, plump and very tidy creature who goes on an adventure with thirteen dwarves trying to get treasure. Unfortunate events happen along the way but they seem to get through them. I would recommend this book to anyone over the age of 7 years. This is a very good book because it leaves you on a cliffhanger!"
Mrs English reviews 'Wriggle and Roar! Rhymes to join in with' by Julia Donaldson and Nick Sharratt.
"We enjoy reading this book of rhymes in Hedgehog class. It makes us wriggle and giggle, shrug and sigh, snap like a crocodile and slither like a snake. We all love to join in. If you like an animated, engaging and stimulating book this is the one for you!"
Bisola from Hedgehogs loves 'There's a snake in my school' by David Walliams
"I really like the snake in this book. My mummy reads it to me at home."
