Parents - Travelling Book Fairs (scholastic.co.uk)
Did you know, children are five times more likely to finish a book that they have chosen themselves? This makes a Book Fair the perfect place for a reluctant reader to find their feet with books.
'When a child’s imagination is captured by a book, you want to nurture it, nourish it and, above all, keep that spark alive.'
Dear parents/ carers
Thank you for your support in our World Book Day activities – there were some fantastic dressed-up potatoes. The focus for the day on different authors in class was brilliant, and the bed-time story session was enjoyed by all. The winners of the potatoes were Ted Masters, Joshua Poole and Ryan Alden – they have all won books to take home…congratulations to them! It has been great to see how many children are already well on their way to receiving their first reading challenge award – thank you for signing the cards in the back of diaries.
We had a brilliant giant conga around the playground this morning to support Sport Relief. One of the things we wanted to do this week was give children the opportunity to experience different sporting activities, including dance, boccia and new age curling. This afternoon’s tournament finale was exciting! Unfortunately we haven’t been able to venture out onto the field for a run – I think we would have needed snorkels!
Have a great week
Lois Haydon, Head Teacher
Please can we remind parents, that the car park is only for staff use and those parents who hold a blue badge. Also, please do not walk through the car park at drop off and pick up times. This is for the safety of everyone. Thank you for your co-operation.
Although storms were not forecast this week, the strength of winds meant that we did not use the usual area at the start of the week. We decided to let the children have a try at Welly wanging on the field instead. They all seemed to enjoy this activity, especially as an element of competition was introduced.
Wednesday was a glorious day and the children had a great time trying out the tyre swings and starting to use the mud kitchen, which will be added to next week.
Next week's classes:
Monday - Deer
Tuesday - Woodpecker and Squirrel
Wednesday - Owl and Otter
It is the turn of Deers and Badgers to give book recommenations this week.
Mrs Pike recommends: 'Mrs Frisby and the rats of NIMH' by Robert C. O'Brien
"Ever since I read this book in primary school, I have found the idea absolutely fascinating and it remains a favourite of mine.
Mrs Frisby is a field mouse living with her children in a farmer's field for the winter. The farmer wants to plough his field once the weather warms, but Mrs Frisby is unable to move her family to safety because her son is extremely ill. As the time for ploughing gets closer and closer, Mrs Frisby finds herself on one amazing and dangerous adventure after another as she searches for help. Can the mysterious and super-intelligent rats that live under the rosebush be the answer to her problems? Could she be the answer to theirs? Follow the adventure as you learn all about the rats of NIMH and why they know all about Mrs Frisby."
James from Badgers likes 'Bad Dad' by David Walliams.
"This book is about a man that likes race driving. Sadly he breaks his leg so he is given a wooden leg. He goes around stealing from banks. David Walliams makes me what to read on because he uses interesting words and uses a lot of action. He is my favourite author!"
Miss Hannan recommends the book 'Into the Forest' by Anthony Browne.
"This is a gorgeous picture book with fantastic illustrations. A young boy heads off on a journey to take a cake to his grandma who is poorly. His mum tells him to to go the long way round but he wants to get home in case his dad comes back early, so he chooses to take the forbidden path into the forest...An absolute must read!!"
Eloisa from Deer class enjoys the book 'The Robot and the Bluebird' by David Lucas
"Everybody should read this, because it is such a nice book and it takes you on a journey. It has a nice friendship which makes you feel very happy".
