Dear parents and carers
Have you had enough of the rain! We certainly have – as the weather is so interchangeable at the moment it’s really important that the children have coats in school, as we try and get them outside unless the weather is absolutely torrential.
In assembly this week, we have touched on the subject of human rights, thinking about the World Cup and the controversy around captains wearing arm bands. I am pleased to say your children gave incredibly thoughtful and measured opinions about the World Cup being held in Qatar!
Christmas is coming fast – rehearsals are taking place for all of the performances, and it is the Christmas Fair next Friday 2nd December. This will be a non-uniform day and we encourage children to wear Christmas attire – jumpers, hairbands – anything with a festive theme. In return for wearing non-uniform, we would like everyone to bring in something for the tombola. This could be chocolates, a bottle of something nice, or small gifts/toys. Please bring these items to the hall on Friday morning. Many thanks to the PSFA for organising this – don’t forget, if you have a spare half hour/hour, you can volunteer to help run stalls!
Poppy Appeal
We have raised £398.86 for this year’s Poppy Appeal, by having the box of goodies and poppies available in school. Thank you for your donations, and thank you to the Y6 children who visited the classes daily.
New Appointment
I am very pleased to say that we have appointed Mrs Louise Howells as our new EYFS/Y1 Squirrels teacher following recent interviews. We felt that Mrs Howells would fit beautifully into our team and that she will be a brilliant Squirrels teacher. We will arrange a meet and greet for parents of this class towards the end of this term. Mrs Howells will begin her post with us in January.

It is the turn of Owls and Falcons to give their book recommendations this week.
Miss Hudson recommends: 'Dear Earth' by Isabel Otter
“This book was bought for Owls class by the PSFA! We are so grateful because it is such a beautiful story about a little girl, Tessa, and her grandad, who both love the ocean and our planet. Tessa wants to write a letter to tell everyone how precious our planet is and she really encourages the reader to want to play a part in saving the Earth. My class cannot wait to listen to this story again! ”
Bow from Owls recommends: 'Ice Bear' by Nicola Davies
“I really like the illustrations, they are really detailed. I like the facts about the polar bear. Did you know it can swim a hundred miles without a rest? There is even a seal in the book! I think all year groups should read this book.”
Miss Curtis recommends: 'The Greatest Show on Earth' by Mini Grey
"If you are interested in the ENTIRE history of Planet Earth then this is the book for you. It goes on a journey from the birth of Earth, to the age of dinosaurs to the moment of people. This is such an engaging non-fiction book and is presented in such a fun way, you won’t want to put it down.
'How did the world begin?' 'When did people first live on Earth?' 'When were cavemen?' If you are asking yourselves these types of questions, then this book will help you to find out the answers. I liked the fact that the history of the Earth is told by a friendly troop of insects and they present it as a theatre show!!
Recommended by Oreoluwa in Falcons Class: 'The Taylor Turbochaser' by David Baddeil
"It’s a good book because it’s about a girl in a wheelchair and her best friend changes the wheelchair into a car. She always wanted to drive so now gets the chance!
It’s an adventure book where they need to get to Scotland by midday to show everyone that she is able to drive. It’s also quite funny.
I would recommend it to anyone who likes adventure stories"
