Dear parents and carers
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all of you! Thank you to all those of you who have been able to come in and celebrate with us over the past two weeks, from the Christmas Fair, to our nativities. The Y4, 5, and 6 children certainly made us feel very Christmassy this week, with their carol concert at Staple Hill Methodist Church. It was great to be back in the wonderful building and to hear the children singing.
We will see you all back – safe and sound (and hopefully healthy!) on Wednesday 4th January.
A big 'Thank you' to all the parents/carers and grandparents who have supported Y4, Y5 and Y6 by walking with us to the swimming pool or/and by accompanying us to the Methodist Church for our rehearsal. It is greatly appreciated! Thank you!
Mrs Brown and Mrs Berger give their book recommendations this week.
Mrs Brown recommends 'Santa Post' by Emma Yarlett
“I have been reading ‘Santa Post’ by Emma Yarlett to some classes this week; we have all loved it! It is a fun, festive tale about a little girl called Amy who writes to Santa about what she would like for Christmas. But, Amy’s letter gets delivered down Santa’s chimney and his fire burns the exact part of the letter that tells him what she wants! Santa has to call upon his friends to ask for their help to think about what Amy’s perfect gift may be. Time is running out to get it to her in time for Christmas, will Santa make it…!”
Mrs Berger reviews 'A Christmas Carol' by Charles Dickens
"One of my very most favourite books is ‘A Christmas Carol’ by Charles Dickens. Originally published in 1843, this classic Christmas tale is 178 years old but still remains relevant today. Although I know the story by heart, I still revisit this book regularly. It’s a story about a miserly, grumpy old man called Ebenezer Scrooge who no longer cares about the people around him. Money has become the most important thing for Scrooge, but a life without people is a very cold and lonely life. Scrooge is visited by three ghosts: the ghost of Christmas Past, the ghost of Christmas Present and the ghost of Christmases Yet To Come. Between the three of them, they teach Scrooge the true meaning of Christmas and the importance of being kind to the people around you. If you are only going to read one book this Christmas, make it this one!"
