Dear parents and carers
I hope you all managed to have a lovely half term with your children. It has been wonderful to see how well the children have responded to their learning this week, and even more so to have children visit me to collect their 100 reads books.
World Book day
Next week is World Book Day, & separate messages have come out about our planned events. Don’t forget that we have Bedtime Story sessions on Wednesday after school (5.15-6pm) and that on Friday, children can come dressed as a book character. A reminder that they don’t have to do this – they can wear their school uniform instead! Also on Friday, is poetry café – it would be brilliant to see you coming into school to listen to the childrens’ performance poetry and to share a book with them.
Netball
Well done to our netball team for their participation in the netball league this year. They have played some brilliant games and have finished 8th overall in the league – there are more details below, but I would like to thank Mrs Board for running the club and ensuring teams were available, and also to thank Mrs Jones who has also supported the team in their development.
Lost property
We have an enormous amount of lost property again, which really does sadden me as I know that these items of clothing are not cheap! We return everything with a name on to the children, but there are so many jumpers and cardigans which we can’t return because they are nameless. Please label your child’s clothes! We will be putting items from lost property outside of the main entrance next week for you to come and claim
Strike Action
A reminder that we have 6 classes closed next Thursday due to strike action, as detailed in the letter sent yesterday. There are ongoing negotiations about this situation & I will let you know straight away if this action is called off. Please note, further days of action are proposed for Wednesday 15th and Thursday 16th March.
The Tynings netball team have taken part in the CSET schools partnership Netball league. 14 local primary schools have been involved over the last three weeks. All of the girls have played brilliantly, showing great enthusiasm and determination throughout. Watching them play, you would never believe that they have only been playing since September! Overall, we ended up mid table with a mix of wins, draws and losses. Well done Team Tynings!
We will be holding an informal parenting coffee morning on Tuesday 14th March from 9.00 am until 10.00 am. If you would like to come along, please let the school office know. Please see the attached poster for more information.

In Year 6, the children visit the Lifeskills Centre in Bristol. Lifeskills take pride in being able to teach invaluable safety education to thousands of children a year! However, they would not be able to do so without their volunteers who dedicate a huge amount of time to keeping children safe through their safety messages, which they deliver several times a day.
Lifeskills are always on the lookout for people to join their community, as volunteers are essential for the service they offer, which is necessary to prevent serious injury or even death for so many children.
On Wednesday 12th April, they will be holding a taster session for anyone who is interested in becoming a volunteer.
Please see the attached posters and volunteer descriptions for more information.
