Dear parents and carers
It has been lovely to welcome everyone back after the Easter break and the children have settled quickly back into their learning. We are doing lots of work on our behaviour expectations, with a new behaviour curriculum for the teachers to use, so that the children know we will all be consistent in our approach.
STRIKE ACTION
You may have heard via the news that all of the four main teaching unions rejected the government’s offer for increasing teachers’ pay. This means that the NEU has called further strike action on Thursday 27th April and Tuesday 2nd May. This will impact on Hedgehogs and Squirrels classes only.
On Thursday 27th April both Hedgehogs and Squirrels will be closed
On Tuesday 2nd May Squirrels class only will be closed
I would also like to give you a little background to this, relating to school funding. Whilst the press coverage is all about teacher pay rises, many schools are currently in a funding crisis. The government have put in extra millions of pounds to school budgets, which for The Tynings is £51,000. The cost of support staff pay rises is £40,000; our gas bill has gone up 200% and our electric bill has gone up 100%; the £51,000 is therefore spent before teachers’ pay rises are even taken into account. Because the government will not fund teacher pay rises, as they have in the past, we have to use our school budget, taking money away from your children.
Breakfast and afterschool Club
- If your child is booked into afterschool club and you no longer require the space, please let the office know
- Please also ‘book in’ to breakfast club so that we have an idea of the numbers
Vehicle Damage
Sadly one of our neighbours’ cars was damaged this week, reported by a witness who saw it happen as well as our neighbour. Unfortunately the person who caused the damage drove off. We are very saddened by this, and hope that if anything like this should occur again, people would do the right thing. Please be considerate when parking around school – both of children who may be walking, and of our neighbours. And don’t forget, parking on yellow lines is not ok!
Exciting news!
On Monday 24th April, our Book Fair is opening and will be available for you to browse every day after school (for one week only). There will be some very exciting titles which will appeal to all ages.
You will find us by the double doors at the entrance to the hall.
We are encouraging cashless payments at the Fair:
Parents can pay using the link below:
Online payments must be completed by 12:00 on May 2, 2023.
Parents can also pre-buy Book Fair vouchers online which can be used to pay for the books at the Fair. (Change can not be given from these vouchers)
Parents - Travelling Book Fairs (scholastic.co.uk)
Did you know, children are five times more likely to finish a book that they have chosen themselves? This makes a Book Fair the perfect place for a reluctant reader to find their feet with books.
'When a child’s imagination is captured by a book, you want to nurture it, nourish it and, above all, keep that spark alive.'
Did you know that The Tynings School is now working alongside 'South Glos Parent Carers' (SGPC), a well-respected local parent carer forum?
SGPC aims to give a voice to parents and carers living in South Gloucestershire who have a child (aged between 0-25) with special educational needs and/or disabilities. SGPC can meet with parents and carers to talk about your experiences and gather your views, they can work alongside professionals to help your family, and they can offer support to you. Your child does not need a diagnosis and your child does not need to be on the school's SEN register for you to access help and support from SGPC. The people who work for SGPC all have children with SEN needs so are well-placed to offer you appropriate guidance.
SGPC are holding a coffee morning at The Tynings School for parents/carers of children attending The Tynings School. This is a great chance to come along and meet them and find out more about what they can offer. The coffee morning is on Tuesday 25th April at 9:15am. Everyone is welcome.
Visit sgpc.org.uk for more information.
