Dear parents and carers
This week has been one filled with pride! I am so delighted with the success of our Art Exhibition – thank you to those who have been able to visit! The response has been so positive. Many thanks to the staff and children for their hard work in putting the exhibition together.
I am also incredibly proud of all of the children who took part in the Olympiad yesterday. It was so hot, but the Y2 children in the morning participated brilliantly and all did their very best. In the afternoon, the ‘athletes’ carried out their events with amazing competitiveness and sportsmanship. We won several medals – and two trophies! Well done to everyone, but especially to the Y3 team who placed third overall, and the Y6 team who placed first. One of the things I was most proud of, was the way the children supported each other throughout a very long, very hot day!
Wrong Trousers Day
A reminder that we are taking part in Wrong Trousers Day this year, on Friday 30th June. Harriet, one of our parents explains why this is such a good charity to raise money for…
“Our daughter Della has just returned to school at The Tynings after missing much of her reception year. Last year she was diagnosed with a rare brain tumour and since then we have had many admissions to Bristol Children's Hospital. There are several teams that look after Della and she receives an incredible level of care. The Grand Appeal, Wrong Trousers Day is a chance to support a charity and hospital in our city that cares for children across the south west. The Grand Appeal supports the hospital through; family accommodation, medical research, equipment that helps save lives, music/play/art therapy and art supplies. Please join us in supporting this amazing charity on 30th June for Wrong Trousers Day. Thank you, The Thomas Family”
Sports Days
These take place on Monday 26th June at 9.10am (Y4, 5, 6) and Tuesday 27th June at 9.10am (EYFS, Y1, Y2, Y3). The children will need to wear their PE kit to school on those days, and will need water bottles, hat, sun cream etc. Parents are very welcome to come and watch – the first activities are in a carousel, which you can follow around the field and then you can sit on the opposite side of the track to watch the track events. It is really important that you allow your children’s teachers to manage them on these mornings!
On Saturday 10th June, 7 Year 5 girls represented the school at the Festival of Youth Sport. The girls competed in a girl's 7-a-side football tournament playing in four matches. The girls did amazingly well drawing 2, losing 1 and winning 1. They showed great sportsmanship and perseverance all day. Well done, it was a fantastic event to take part in!
