Dear parents and carers
On Monday and Tuesday next week we have our Sports Days; the weather looks fine for both mornings so everything should go ahead. The PSFA will be on hand selling teas and coffees for those of you who are able to come and cheer on your children. It will be lovely to see you all!
It is a relief that the pavement on Eastleigh Close is finally being sorted, so that the surface is more even and the kerbs are sturdy. Thank you to those parents who wrote to the council to get them to address this. Another area where parent power may help, is the crossing on Station Road. We are aware that Derek is not always there and that the local authority do not provide a substitute when he is off. Station Road traffic is very speedy – many thanks to the parent who contacted Ian Boulton about this, as we have had a flurry of emails this week. Outcomes from this are
- As a school we should make sure the children have been taught about road safety (we do this already)
- To ask you if any of you are interested in become a school crossing patrol person – let me know if you do and I will put you in touch with the right team at the council
- Request a road traffic calming scheme. Without wishing to upset those who live on Station Road, I think this has enormous potential. Here is what was written in an email:
Requesting a traffic management scheme
If you live or work in the South Gloucestershire Council area you can make suggestions for improvements to the management and safety of roads etc including pedestrian crossings and speed calming. South Glos has an agreed process whereby requests for measures can be submitted for possible inclusion on the Local Transport Priority List. Schemes that are added to this list are scored annually against key transport criteria as set out in the Joint Local Transport Plan. If you wish to submit a request, you may wish to view the following page from the SGC public website that explains the scheme prioritisation process:
Request a highway improvement | BETA - South Gloucestershire Council (southglos.gov.uk)
It would be very helpful if parents were able to submit a request!
Class Photos
Class photographs will be taken next Thursday – please can your children be smartly dressed in their normal uniform and bring in a change of clothing for PE or Forest School. The Y6 children will also have individual leaver’s photographs taken.
Parent Survey
On Monday I sent out the link to Parent View, to gather your views on the school. So far, we have had 23 responses. If you would like to give your feedback please use the following link. It would be great to have some more!
This week, 12 Year 5 students took part in a CSET Rounders Come and Play event at Mangotsfield Secondary School. Across two days after school, the children played 7 matches against 6 different schools. It was great to see the children gel as a team and develop their tactics as the matches went on. They all did incredibly well, and we are all so proud of them. They showed great teamwork and sportsmanship and were great representatives of the school.
