Dear Parents/carers
Another week of lockdown goes by – I hope you are all feeling well and are coping. This week we began making calls to all of our families, and over the next two weeks we will have phoned everyone. We hope that those of you who have had the calls so far feel that they are beneficial; the staff have certainly loved talking to the children. Lots of us are missing our day to day contact with you and your children! We are looking forward to catching up with everyone else too.
This week we put the reading books in the school lobby area for you to come and change for your children – we have decided to keep them there for the time being so that you can access them when you need them. This week an electronic book called the Book of Hope was published by the Literacy Trust https://literacytrust.org.uk/family-zone/9-12/book-hopes/ There are some great little stories here by many of our favourite authors – it could be a lovely thing to read before bedtime.
Next week we were due to have an inset day on the Thursday, and Friday is a Bank Holiday. We will continue to provide care for children of keyworkers on both of these days. The inset day has been postponed, but we may have to reschedule this before the end of the academic year if we re-open fully. This might sound ridiculous having had all of this time, but the current circumstances mean we are also unable to get together. We will obviously let you know about re-opening, once plans are in place, following government advice. However we, like you, need the reassurance that it will be safe to open before we commit to this. The Friday Bank Holiday was put in place to enable everyone to celebrate the 75th anniversary of VE Day. Celebrations were due to take place up and down the country, including an event in Page Park. Sadly, this is no longer happening, but this link here https://www.mrtdoeshistory.com/75th-anniversary-ve-day gives activities which you could do with your children to learn all about it.
Attached to this newsletter is this week’s baby competition, and the answers to the previous edition. See if you can guess who is who, there are some tricky ones this week! Also attached are the CSET weekly activities. It was great to see the tweets showing that some of you are doing the running challenge – keep it up, and let’s try and have even more of you joining in! John Lewis are running a competition to design a ‘Superbear’ in honour of the NHS, which will be made and sold in stores over Christmas. Details can be found here: johnlewis.com and scrolling down to click on ‘Feel Good Friday - hurry though, as the closing date is Friday 8th May!
Finally, Mr Mead has made us a YouTube channel this week! He is now writing guidelines for the rest of the staff to be able to use it. Once we are all up to speed with this, we will add to it with different staff reading stories and sending messages. We hope that you will be able to enjoy this together – it’s another way of staying in touch! Once again, thank you for everything that you are doing. Keep in touch via email and twitter, and take care.
Sending the warmest of wishes,
Lois Haydon Head Teacher
