Dear parents and carers
Thank you for another brilliant year at The Tynings! Thank you for all of your support as we continue on our journey to make Tynings the best it can possibly be. On behalf of the staff, thank you also for the amazing array of gifts we have all received; you are all incredibly thoughtful. I hope you all have an enjoyable break with your children.
Summer reading challenge
On Monday we were visited by a member of Staple Hill library, who talked to the children about the summer reading challenge. All libraries, up and down the country take part in this, and we really like the fact that it encourages the children to read! I would love to see the certificates and medals in our celebration assemblies in September, so please encourage your child to take part. If you don’t already have a library card, it’s free and quite a simple process to join any library – you just have to go and visit one
Things you can do over the summer!!
There are many things you can do over the summer, but there are also some which will help support your children when they come back to school. The staff have put together a list, and here are a few of the things which might help….
- Practice reading – read anything…comics, books, leaflets, it all counts!
- Tie shoelaces
- Use a knife and fork correctly
- Choose it, use it, put it away…a strategy we all use to help keep classrooms tidy
- Telling the time
- Being safe online
- Saying please and thank you
- Taking turns when playing games
- Toileting – wiping bottoms, flushing the toilet especially
- How to open packets of things which might be in lunchboxes
- Holding a pencil and writing their own name
- Hanging up coats
Obviously, there are so many things which many of the children can do already…this is just food for thought for everyone! Thank you once again for all of your endeavours – I know the children will be ready in September. Happy holidays from all of us!
