Dear parents and carers
It has been a wonderful week at The Tynings! The children have settled exceptionally well, and they are wearing their uniforms with pride. They look so smart – thank you!
The Leaf Trust
We are now an academy! From September 1st, we became part of the newly formed Leaf Trust. This is the product of over 18 months of working in close partnership with 12 other schools, to set up a Primary school based trust, in our area. We are now accountable to our lovely CEO, Mr Ross Newman – exciting times!
Baby news!
I am delighted to be able to tell you that Miss Hannah gave birth to the beautiful Daisy during the summer break. She is now just over two weeks old and absolutely gorgeous.
Mrs Brown is also expecting, so she will begin her maternity leave in January, as well as Miss Davies who will be here until October.
Y6 Parents:
Now is the time to start thinking about your child’s school for Y7 onwards, if you haven’t already begun. Our top tip is to look at as many as you can, and to attend the open evenings with your children, and then when you fill in the application form on the portal, make sure you use the option of three choices – don’t just stick with one.
Macmillan Walk
Tomorrow, one of our lovely lunch break supervisors, Rosie, along with two parents are walking a whole marathon in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support. They are walking as Team Tynings – in rather hot weather! Macmillan is an extremely important charity for our Tynings family, and I am personally grateful to them. It would be wonderful if you are able to support Rosie and Team Tynings by using the link to their ‘just giving’ page.
Behaviour and relational practice
Here at The Tynings, we have built our policy for behaviour management around strong relationships. We believe it is really important to know our children well, and what makes them tick. Much of our learning around this has stemmed from the ‘Better Behaviours’ project which we did pre-covid, based on the work of Paul Dix, who came to speak to South Gloucestershire head teachers at the time. He wrote a book called ‘When the adults change, everything changes,’ and I am pleased to say that he has turned his expertise to writing a book for parents called ‘When the parents change, everything changes.’
If you are interested in this, Paul Dix has set of up a behaviour book group, a Facebook page and a WhatsApp group, which can all be accessed via this link. BEHAVIOUR BOOK CLUB | When the Parents Cha (whentheparentschange.com) I would highly recommend this!
Reminder!
Just a quick reminder that school begins at 8.45. Our doors open at 8.40 to enable the children to come in and settle, and we like them to be ready to learn by 8.50. Please help us to help your children by making sure they arrive on time. School ends at 3.15. Please be considerate of our neighbours if you have to park a car in the area. Thank you.

We are excited to offer a series of online presentations to help support families across Bristol, South Gloucestershire and North Somerset. We offer expert tips on a range of topics including feeding, sleep and home safety. The sessions are free and you can ask questions in the chat.

We are recruiting volunteers – can you help?
Home-Start Bristol is a local charity that offers a lifeline to families in need. We are heavily dependent on recruiting volunteers to support families and are about to start a new training course. We hope this will be of interest to some of your families.
Please see the attached poster for more information.
