Dear parents and carers
Welcome back! I hope you all had a fabulous Christmas break and that the enormous amount of rain we have had didn’t spoil it for you. The children have returned refreshed and ready to learn – thank you.
Staffing News
A very special welcome to Mr Rojas in Kingfishers class, who is covering for Miss Hudson, and to Miss Reed who has joined the EYFS team supporting our learners. It is great to have you join the team!
As yet, we have not been able to replace Mrs Masters, who has moved over to the Leaf Executive Team. This means that Mrs Whitton and Mrs Mundy are stepping up and covering as much as they can, and we will have support from other Leaf schools’ SBMs to make sure everything is as it should be. An advert will be going out soon for a new SBM – if you have a finance background and are interested, please look out for it!
The Zones of Regulation – coming to The Tynings School!
Hopefully you received our letter via email this week, letting you know all about The Zones of Regulation. This is a curriculum designed to teach children to understand their feelings and give them a range of strategies, known as tools, to help them manage their feelings in order to remain regulated and calm. There are four zones:
The Blue Zone is used to describe low states of alertness, such as when one feels sad, tired, sick or bored. This is when one’s body and/or brain is moving slowly or sluggishly.
The Green Zone is used to describe a regulated state of alertness. A person may be described as calm, happy, focused, or content when in this zone. This is the zone children generally need to be in for schoolwork and for being social. Being in the Green Zone shows control.
The Yellow Zone is used to describe a heightened state of alertness. A person may be experiencing stress, frustration, anxiety, excitement, silliness, nervousness, confusion and many more slightly elevated emotions and states when in the Yellow Zone (such as wiggly, squirmy, or sensory seeking). The Yellow Zone is starting to lose some control.
The Red Zone is used to describe extremely heightened states of alertness or very intense feelings. A person may be feeling anger, rage, explosive behaviour, panic, terror, or elation when in this Zone. Being in the Red Zone can best be explained by not being in control of one’s body.
If you would like to find out more, come along to our Zones of Regulation workshop for parents on Tuesday 30th January at 9am. Please contact the school office to book a place if you wish to attend.

Deputy Head Teacher
Next week, we will be re-organising the reading books in Gromit square. To help us do this, we would like all reading books to be returned to school on Monday 8th and for the children to read books they have at home next week rather than taking a book home. The children will be able to take a reading book home again on the week beginning 15th January as normal.
At some point during the week beginning 15th January, there will be a meeting for parents with children in EYFS – Year 3 about reading. We will let you know the date next week.
Many thanks
The Reading Team
