Dear parents and carers
You may have heard in the news this week that the government plans to have a real push on children’s attendance in school. Currently, our attendance is 94.4% for this academic year – not too bad considering flu and covid have been doing the rounds again. It would be great if we could all work together to get to our pre-pandemic levels of 96%. Guidance issued recently is very much around sending your children into school if they have a runny nose or sniffle, but obviously the 48 hour rule still applies for sickness and diarrhoea. There is also a push to not authorise holidays in term time. I know that you all do your very best for your children – keep going!
The very first Leaf Literature Festival will be taking place 26th February – 8th March 2024 and we are very much looking forward to taking part!
To kickstart our festival celebrations, we are inviting children from all of our Trust schools to design a bookmark which shows their love of reading. There will be winners from each school and one overall winner whose design will be chosen to be printed for everyone in the Leaf Trust to own. Please see attached letter for more details.

Celebrations!
Well done to Hettie Lewis who donated 10 inches of hair to the Little Princess Trust, who make wigs for children who have lost theirs due to cancer. In doing this, Hettie has also raised £212 for the Trust well done Hettie, we are really proud of you!
A few reminders!
School starts at 8.40 in the morning – it would be fabulous to have everyone in on time!
Our snowdrops are trying their best to grow at the front of the school, near our Garden of Hope. Unfortunately, they are continually being squashed by children and parents walking over them! Please can everyone walk around the path and not over the grass!
On Thursday this week, Y4 had a fantastic trip to Caerleon, where they learned about life in Roman times. The children were taught about the differences in healthcare for towns people and richer people, and heard some gruesome stories about health in Roman times. They visited the museum, dressing up as Roman soldiers, before visiting the amphitheatre and exploring the grounds of a Roman barracks, where they could see how under floor heating worked.
Thank you to all of the volunteers for the day – the children loved having you there, and your support helped made the trip such a success!
