Dear parents and carers
We are looking to enhance play at lunchtimes, and need your help! In March, we will be having a ‘school grounds day’ where we will need volunteers to help us with the pond area, and to create play spaces. In the meantime, if you have any of the following items, we would happily take them off your hands! Thank you
Wooden planks
Drain pipes
Milk crates
Steering wheels
Large pieces of fabric / old curtains / sheets
Digging tools – trowels, garden forks
Pallets
Outdoor furniture
Logs
Wind chime
Boulders
Mud kitchen
BEHAVIOUR & SAFETY
In last week’s newsletter I wrote about some children not feeling as safe as they could in our school. Please be assured, the unacceptable behaviour we saw last week was from a very small number of children, and that this has been dealt with appropriately. However, because we have had some illness, I have taken the decision to split the playgrounds for lunchtimes until half term, so the younger children are not mixing with the older children. My plan is to open up both playgrounds to everyone again, after half term. Thank you for your understanding in this matter
PARENT DONATIONS
We regularly have parents ask us what they can donate to the school to say thank you, so we have set up an Amazon wish list. This wish list contains lots of items to enhance play at lunchtimes, sensory tools, some books – more to be added – and small world play items. If you would like to donate something to school, this list is an easy option! You could also choose to purchase something from the list instead of sending sweets in for birthdays – we would then make sure that we acknowledged your child in any donations during celebration assembly or in class. The list is just there in case….there is no expectation on anyone. We are sure the items we have selected will enhance our provision! https://www.amazon.co.uk/hz/wishlist/ls/2EGDLSA8T81NE?ref_=wl_share is the link you will need.
GIRLS FOOTBALL
On Tuesday, the Y5/6 girls’ football team took part in a football tournament. The girls were motivated and ambitious, and were not fazed by facing some tricky opposition teams. After a stunning shot from Aoiffe, the team finished the first game 1-1. The second game began positively with Frankie scoring early on. Following some very brave defending, a goal was conceded; after a quick break, and great movement from Emma, Lana took the ball from the halfway line and scored the winning goal with a sublime shot, resulting in a 2-1 win. The final game required defensive resilience. After determined defending by Erin and Sienna, the game remained even – a quick counter attack from the opposition called Ella into action, saving a shot with her fingertips! A 0-0 draw meant the girls were undefeated in the competition. Well done to all of the girls, for their excellent sportsmanship and talent!
RED NOSE DAY
….is March 15th. Plans are afoot so that we can fundraise for this charity and we will let you know what they are in due course. In the meantime, we have set up a ‘justgiving’ page with the charity to receive your donations. It is Lois Haydon is fundraising for Comic Relief (justgiving.com) Red Nose Day is a while away, so I will continue to post the link and give further details, nearer the time.
SCHOOL UNIFORM - MONKHOUSE
We are in the process of re-brokering with uniform suppliers. I would be very interested to hear what you think of our current providers, Monkhouse. (Please email the office with comments)
In the meantime, they are offering a 20% clearance discount on all school joggers/ trackpants/ leggings if you would like to purchase them at this rate. Monkhouse do have a certain amount of stock which they need to clear, if we are going to use an alternative provider!
Did you know you can use the free My Family Journal app to help you understand your child’s behaviour?
This can be incredibly useful in helping to spot recurring patterns or triggers behind behaviours. Another great feature of the app is that it recognises keywords, such as bullying, friendships, anger, and automatically suggests links to key resources on the My Family Coach platform.
Anything parents and carers write in the app is completely confidential, but they can also choose to print off a report to share with you at school, which can be particularly useful for parents’ evenings, action plans and EHCP reviews, and other meeting with teachers.
It’s free to download the My Family Journal app from Apple and Google Play stores. https://www.myfamilycoach.com/journal/
Free online classes coming up soon... We also send out the recordings to watch on-demand if parents and carers can’t make it on the night – you just need to book a space to receive the recording:
At Nexus Fostering based in Gloucester, we’re looking for local people like you to become foster carers. By providing a loving and stable home environment, you can support the increasing number of children and young people in the local area who cannot live in their family homes. Not all children require long-term care. We also need foster carers for short-term placements, respite care, and to provide temporary homes to support young parents and their babies. So, if you have a spare room and are ready to change lives, please give us a call on 01452491980 or email Bridget Fletcher on [email protected].
