Dear parents and carers
What a wonderful week of reading we have had! It was fantastic to see so many of you here this morning for our poetry café. I thought the children did a marvellous job of reciting the poems they had learned. Thank you also for encouraging the children to dress up today, there is definitely a reading buzz in the air today!
I hope the children also enjoyed the bedtime stories last night and that the parents who listened to our presentation enjoyed what they were hearing about how we plan to develop reading further in our school. At lunchtime today, golden tickets will be hidden away in lunches, so that the children can select a book donated by staff.
Many thanks must go to Miss Curtis and Miss Thomas for organising all of the events that we had had during our Leaf Literature Festival.
SCHOOL GROUNDS DAY
Thank you to those who have volunteered to come and help out on our grounds development session on Saturday 16th March – don’t forget, everyone is welcome! Please bring spades, wheelbarrows and gardening gloves if you have them.
To help us clear some brambles, we are looking to borrow a few petrol powered strimmers. If you have one that you are happy to let us use, please can you let the office know and either bring to school next Friday, or at 9.00 on the Saturday morning. (Or we can arrange to pick it up!)
We also need to hire a small digger – if anyone has any contacts for this, please let me know via the office. Thank you.
ATTENDANCE
Attendance today is 93.8%, 95.2% for the last seven days, 93.5% for the year so far. The national average is 94.3%. This means that 73% of other schools have better attendance than we do! Next week Mrs Berger, Mrs Dutton and our Education Welfare Officer will be meeting with some of our parents to see what we can do to support them with increasing children’s attendance.
RED NOSE DAY
Friday 15th March is Red Nose Day! The theme is to wear red from ‘head to toe.’ This means the children can wear anything red! We are asking for donations to Comic Relief, which can be made via this link Lois Haydon is fundraising for Comic Relief (justgiving.com) or you can send a donation in with your child. We would love to raise money for this brilliant charity!
AMAZON WISHLIST
Thank you to the Hills family and the Burridge family for our most recent donations. We are looking forward to using the equipment and books you have purchased! https://www.amazon.co.uk/hz/wishlist/ls/2EGDLSA8T81NE?ref_=wl_share
Hi everyone,
From 20th May-24th May we are running a whole school STEM week. We would love to have some visitors come in, to speak in an assembly about an aspect of science. We are focusing on physics for the week but any area is fine. Please let Mr Mead know if you'd like to speak to the school.
Many thanks,
Mr Mead
This week our netball team have been very busy. On Monday evening, they competed against other schools in a friendly league. They had to brave pouring rain, cold temperatures and a lot of puddles. They coped brilliantly and kept up their positivity. However, we were all relieved when it was decided to finish early! In contrast, the weather for the competitive tournament on Wednesday evening was lovely. We played 5 games in total. We couldn't quite get a win but we did have a draw. The girls showed great teamwork, great attitudes and did us proud. Well done to all those that took part over the two evenings.

Dear Parents and Carers
In the Spring last year the government announced that it was providing additional funding to expand the access to wraparound childcare; to make it more affordable, available and flexible. This relates to childcare before and after school to support working parents.
All local authorities will receive a share of 289 million pounds to help map out and accommodate the needs of parents, families, and carers in their locality. The local authority will be able to use their allocated share of funds to test different ways that they can increase wraparound care options to meet identified demand. We will be working to support schools and private, independent, and voluntary providers to increase the wraparound care options that they provide.
We are interested in hearing your views on wraparound childcare in South Gloucestershire. If you are a parent of a child aged 0-11 we need your help to tell us how and where we should plan extra provision for wraparound care to be most convenient to residents, parents and carers across South Gloucestershire.
https://forms.office.com/e/EeVwzdm77g
We very much appreciate your time in completing the survey as it will ensure the local authority has a clear map of your future or current needs and the provision you use.
We are very grateful for your support in completing the survey by Friday 22 March.
Kind regards,
Claire Parfitt
Wraparound Care Lead
I'm just reaching out to teams that have either been mascots for us this year, or have enquired ahead of next season, to let you know some exciting news! You may have already seen on our social media channels, that on March 24th the Gas Girls will play their final home game of the 23/24 season at the home of Bristol Rovers, the Memorial Stadium.
Not only is this a fantastic opportunity for us to play in the Bristol Rovers home stadium, but also where we have the chance to seal promotion with just 1 more point needed in this game! As well as this, the game will be a dedicated Her Game Too fixture, with a whole day designed to celebrate girls and women's football. The fanzone will be open with plans under way for a band and face painter as well as food and drink options - so this will be a fantastic family day out!
We are hoping to get a great crowd to the game to cheers us on, and tickets are available now on the link below. Tickets are priced at £5 for adults and just £1 for kids.
