Dear parents/carers
What a hot week! I hope you have all managed to stay cool wherever you have been. I think this is a good time to remind parents of those children who are in school that they should have a hat with them and sunscreen on, and that they should all have a water bottle!
Transition
I am working on a plan to try to get all of the children in at some point before the end of the school year to say goodbye to their current teacher, and hello to their new one. I appreciate that some of you may not be able to make a specific date, but it would be fantastic to see as many of the children as possible for these meetings. Next week I will send out the class lists so that you know who will be your child’s class teacher, and with this, information about a very simple transition meeting. I envisage that this will be on the field so that we can be socially distant, and I am hoping the weather will fit in with my plans. The teachers are busy making videos to welcome their new classes – details of how to access these will be included in next week’s newsletter. Please look out for this information next week!
Your Child’s Belongings
We have organised dates and times for parents and carers to come to school to collect PE kits, forest school kits – anything that was left behind by your child when the school went into lockdown at the end of March. We will also be handing out your child’s work from this year. This means their exercise books and any other work completed will be available for collection at the same time.
In order to maintain social distancing, and to not have too many people on site at the same time, we have arranged for work, belongings etc to be placed by the school entrance on specific days. Please refer to the table below to find out on which day your child’s belongings will be available.

Y6 Leavers
It is a very sad time of year for us as we will be saying goodbye to our Y6 children as they move on to secondary school. In the current circumstances this is very difficult as not everyone is here and we can’t fit everyone into the hall as we are socially distancing! However, we will be having a picnic on the school field on Monday 13th July at 2pm, with a reserve date of Wednesday 15th July. We would love to see all of our Year 6 children for this event (and their parents!) including those who are not currently attending.
Sadly, we will also be saying goodbye to Mrs Davis and Mrs Say. Both have been instrumental to the success of Forest school and we could not have introduced the school to this if it wasn’t for them. Mrs Davis has also been our ELSA, supporting a number of children over the last few years to help them with emotional needs, and Mrs Say has been our resident French expert, teaching language to KS2 children. Both will be terribly missed, but we are looking forward to supporting them in their new ventures.
Reports
School reports for each child will be sent out on Friday 10th July. We have reduced the reports this year to take into account the lockdown period and that some children have not been in school since the end of March. We have based the majority of children’s reports on our knowledge of children before lockdown.
September: Return to school
As far as we know, school will reopen to everyone on Wednesday 2nd September (Tuesday 1st is an inset day) We have not had any guidance from the government as yet, but we have heard the Prime Minister say that he wants all children in full time, and that bubbles will be able to have up to 30 children in them. This is the scenario we are currently planning for – I will keep you up to date with any further information we receive and our reopening plans.
Great sports news!
This week we received certificates from CSET Quadkids competition which we are very proud of. KS1 came first, Y3/4 came second and Y5/6 came first. A brilliant set of results! Thank you to all of the children who have taken part in Quadkids, whether at home or in school, and look out for information from Mr Griffiths about our next challenge!
