Dear parents / carers
Thank you for your continued support this week – it is very much appreciated. The children are settling back into their routines and teachers are saying that the vast majority are really ready to learn!
Seasonal illnesses and Covid-19.
We have noticed that the children are starting to catch seasonal colds, and it is becoming more and more difficult to decide whether children should be in school or not. As there are a number of cases of Covid-19 in the area, I can sense increased anxiety from parents and staff about how things are going to go. In school we will obviously continue to make sure there is regular handwashing and cleaning of surfaces – you can do your bit by ensuring you do not send your children into school if they have a temperature or a persistent cough. The definition of this cough is
‘a new, continuous cough – this means coughing a lot for more than an hour, or 3 or more coughing episodes in 24 hours (if you usually have a cough, it may be worse than usual)’
I have added a quick reference guide for parents so that you know when it is ok to send children to school or not – I hope this helps, but please use your judgement and remember that you know your child and you know when they are ill. We are aware that there is enormous difficulty getting tests for children at the moment, and that in these instances, doctors are advising isolation for 10 days for those with symptoms and 14 days for family members. However, if your child is displaying any covid symptoms, please aim to get a test.
Assemblies
We are planning on re-introducing assemblies over the coming weeks, including our Friday celebration assembly, so we would welcome your child bringing in certificates from home. The teacher will now keep these and will present them in our online assemblies. We will also be identifying our ‘Champion of the Week’ and ‘Recognition’ certificates for those children who go ‘above and beyond.’
Governor vacancies
We currently have two governor vacancies, and attached to this newsletter is the application form for those of you who are interested in applying. Being a governor is a brilliant way of becoming involved in the running of the school – and everyone has something they can offer! If there are more than two people interested, we will hold a parent governor election to determine who will join the governing body.
Local Authority Guidance
Also coming to you this week is some guidance from the local authority, reminding everyone about social distancing. Please read! We are also considering changing the entry and exits times slightly for classes within year groups to avoid some of the congestion that we are seeing. I will send details of this next week when it is finalised. We are also going to change the gates used by you, so that there is a one way system in place. Please enter the school site through the station road entrance and leave via the Penny Lane entrance OR enter via Jubilee Road and leave via Eastleigh Crescent, depending on which side of the building your child’s class is. Again, I hope this helps with ensuring social distancing is easy to stick to.
A few reminders…
- Please do not use the school car park. It is congested at the best of times and is for staff use only, unless you have made an arrangement with the school office.
- When parking on Eastleigh Close please be respectful of our neighbours. We have had one report this week of one of our parents blocking a resident’s driveway – this is not ok!
- In line with South Gloucestershire policy, jewellery should not be worn in school. All that is allowed is a simple watch or small stud earrings for those who have their ears pierced.
- Please ensure long hair is tied back for PE.
- Breakfast club payments should be made online. For those children having breakfast in school, they should bring in the correct money (either £1 or 50p) and this should be in a named enveloped.
- Please ensure you leave the playground immediately after you have collected your child/children at the end of the day. Please do not allow them to play on any of the play equipment.
