Dear Parents/carers
Thank you for being so understanding this week of the ‘polite reminders’ which we have sent out. Your support in making sure the school run in particular, is as safe as it possibly can be is much appreciated. Don’t forget, Jubilee Road and Station Road are our ways onto the school site, and Penny Lane and Eastleigh Close are our ways off the site. I am looking at finding a way for families to bring their children to school all at once, rather than have to wait around, and will give you information on this next week so that it can begin from Monday 28th September. I hope this helps!
Staffing news
At the end of this term we sadly have two members of staff leaving us. Mrs ‘BG’ a brilliant teaching assistant who has supported children one-to-one over the past few years has decided to take this opportunity to have a break and be with her family. She will be sorely missed by the class she works with, and by all of us in school.
Secondly, Mrs Savage has decided to retire, and I know this will come as an enormous surprise to many of you. She currently has a broken wrist, and feels that now is the time to look after herself. Mrs Savage has been here for 29 years, and I know many of you who were here as young people yourself remember her fondly. She has been a great source of knowledge for me personally as I have got to know the families of The Tynings and will also be very much missed by all.
We are having collections for both these members of staff so that we can give them something to remember us by, and if you wish to contribute to this, please could you put your donation in an envelope labelled with either Mrs Savage or Mrs BG and send it in to the office.
Celebrations, rewards, certificates
Today we began our new rewards systems for children who have gone ‘above and beyond’ for the classes for Y2 upwards (EYFS and Y1 will begin next week.) Each class will have a ‘Champion of the Week’ certificate to hand out, and a Hot Chocolate Friday token, so that two individuals can be recognised for their efforts. Sadly, we can’t have the hot chocolate in school for the time being, so we have made up packages of marshmallows and hot chocolate for children to bring home. We will present these in our online assembly every Friday afternoon.
Someone who is definitely going above and beyond this weekend is Kallie in Kingfishers class. It is her birthday soon, and as her birthday wish she has decided to grow her hair and then have it chopped off to donate it to Little Princesses, who make wigs for children who suffer from hair loss as a result of illness. We are really proud of Kallie, who has already raised £230 for the charity – Well done and thank you Kallie! I will post a before and after shot next week.
If you wish to contribute to Kallie’s birthday wish, there is a link here: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/Kallies-Birthday-Cut?utm_source=Sharethis&utm_medium=fundraising&utm_content=Kallies-Birthday-Cut&utm_campaign=pfp-email&utm_term=7efeba9a56314b94959b40941eb1a896.
Also going ‘above and beyond’ this weekend are Mr and Mrs Mundy, who are taking part in the Bristol Three Peaks Challenge – a special birthday treat for Mrs Mundy!! We wish them good luck in the challenge and hope their feet aren’t too sore on Monday!
This week we assembled out Tynings Tree display. Every child has made a hand print which forms the leaves of our tree to show how we all belong together. We love it!
Foxes on site
I know many of you have expressed concern about the amount of droppings left by our resident foxes recently. I think the foxes have been used to having the freedom to wander during lockdown, but hopefully they are getting the message that we are back. Please be reassured that Mr Mundy goes around the grounds every morning and scoops up any unwanted business they may have left.
Local road closures
I have been asked by a local resident to make you aware of a petition which is being set up regarding the closures of Charnell Road and Signal Road asking the council to consider alternative measures. If you wish to add your name to this please contact Mrs Chris Evans on 0117 9570731 or at the addresses of 3 Teewell Hill or 5 Teewell Hill . Alternatively parents can register their comments on line with the council. Please do not take this as confirmation that the school are backing this petition, we are merely sharing local information.
Foodbank
I have also attached the most recent request for foodbank donations, for your information. We know that many families in the local area support the foodbank, and many others may have to use it, so if you wish to make donations to school, we will happily take them to Resound for you.

Helpful guidance
I hope you found the chart about illness useful last week. It really is so difficult to decide if a cold is anything more serious at the moment! We have also been sent the flow chart below from a parent who works in a surgery, which you may find useful. I do have to say thank you for being so careful where illness is concerned and ensuring your children are safe.
