Dear parents/carers
Thank you for making a huge effort to use our one way system – I know the markings on the pathway are not difficult to spot! There are still one or two people going the wrong way, especially down the Station Road path and I would urge you to please not do this, for the safety of everyone. As a staff, and at our governors meeting this week, we have discussed ways to maintain the safety of members of our community whilst on the school run. We have looked carefully at changing from a year groups system to an alphabetical system, but feel that at this point in time this would cause further disruption to the children. We have therefore decided that we will keep the same system in place but reduce the waiting time. Start and ends of the day will now be:
Year groups |
Start time |
End time |
EYFS, Y1, Y3, Y5 |
8.45 (no change) |
3.10 (no change) |
Y2, Y4, Y6 |
8.55 (5 minutes earlier) |
3.20 (5 minutes earlier) |
I hope this helps those families who have to wait around for siblings.
I have had some complaints from parents and neighbours about people getting too close or standing just outside the school grounds chatting, so I feel it is time to remind everyone to keep their distance from each other. Following the increased use of masks in society announced this week, I would also like to suggest wearing a mask whilst on the school site to help us all protect each other, and that you download the NHS Test and Trace App onto your phones. So far, we do not have any confirmed cases at The Tynings – we would like to keep it that way! (If you do have a confirmed case, please don’t forget that you must call school and let us know.) Thank you for everything you are doing so far to support school in this.
Safer Streets
Following my message about the local petition last week, I would like to remind you that the council would like your responses to the road closures. It is really important to share your views whether you are against the road closures or for them – please take the time to do this, especially if this has had an impact on your walk to school. Before and after!

Well done Kallie – we are very proud of you, and really impressed that you raised over £400!
Census Day Thursday October 1st
Each year the number of children who have school meals on a set day are counted, and this is used to help determine the school funding. We always choose a popular menu item on this day. Therefore next week we will swap the Thursday and Friday menu over. Thursday will now be fishfingers and chips, and Friday will be all day breakfast. Please can everyone who loves fishfingers have a school meal next Thursday!!
School Photograph Day. Tuesday 6th October
All children will have an individual photograph taken for our school records on Tuesday 6th October, which will be available for you to purchase. All of this will be done in a Covid secure manner. For the time being, we will not be having photos of siblings together, but we hope to be able to do this later in the year for you.
Reading Café
Reading cafes will re-open the first Friday of every month. We will start the day with a range of different reading materials, share book reviews and encourage and support children to share in the pleasure of reading. Unfortunately, due to the present situation, we are unable to welcome visitors to join us.
Book recommendations from teachers and children recommence this week and it is the turn of Deer and Falcons to tell us about their favourite books.
Miss Hannan recommends the book 'All are welcome' as it is a lovely picture book that encourages us to think about where we belong and encourages us to celebrate our differences. This book helps children to recognise that they all have a place and will always be welcome in their school. It has a great message and beautiful illustrations. Deer class loved listening to this story.
Ava from Deer class recommends the book 'Shine' because it helps us to realise that everybody is different, but we are all special in our own way. "I love this story!!"
Miss Curtis’s book recommendation:
"I recommend ‘The girl who stole the elephant’ by Nizrana Farook. I read this book with my daughters during lockdown and we loved it. We loved the fact the main character is a strong, independent girl who has a wild adventure with the aim of helping others. Each chapter leaves you with a cliff-hanger so we ended up finishing the book very quickly as we couldn’t wait to hear what happened next to Chaya.
If you enjoy exciting adventure books then this is the one for you! I thoroughly recommend this book!"
James from Falcons recommends:
'The Parent Agency' by David Baddiel
"I like this book because it’s funny. The storyline is good – it’s about picking a parent from different categories. It’s a unique book. I haven’t read anything similar to this book so I’m really enjoying it. The character is a big fan of James Bond and there are lots of James Bond moments.
I recommend this book to anyone who likes James Bond or comedies."
