Dear Parents / carers
My goodness hasn’t the weather changed this week - We are definitely coming up to ‘muddy season!’ Hopefully the work we had done over the summer will reduce the number of incidents of children covered in mud, but if you could make sure the children have their wellies in school, especially children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2, and their coats, then we can work together to help keep everyone mud-free.
Harvest
We are coming up to our Harvest Assembly, and this year we would like to collect contributions for the Resound Food Bank. There is increased demand amongst families needing to use the foodbank due to the current situation, so we would be very grateful for any goods on the list below which we will deliver to Resound. Please bring items into classes between Tuesday 6th and Wednesday 14th October where they will be collected and sorted in the hall. Assemblies for the children will take place on Thursday October 8th. Many thanks in anticipation of your support.

Parent Governors
I am absolutely delighted to be able to declare that we have two new parent governors. Emma Normanton and Marta Rossato both wrote fabulous applications and we all look forward to working with them on our governing body.
Jubilee Road Path
A huge thank you to Mr Gould for clearing the pathway between the playground and Jubilee Road. It is very much appreciated, and I am sure it has improved access for you all. Mr Gould gave up his free time and volunteered to do this for us – thank you, we are very grateful.
A few reminders:
As already mentioned, wellies and coats should be brought into school, please ensure they are named. Large school bags are not necessary, as we are trying to reduce the amount of things children need to bring in, particularly whilst we are trying to stay Covid free.
Children with long hair should have it tied back in school, especially for PE lessons.
Please do not use the car park as a pedestrian entrance/exit. We really don’t want any accidents here.
Parking: You have been brilliant about using the four different entrance and exits onto the school site but it would appear that this is causing one or two issues out on the streets. Two local residents have contacted us this week, one to say the stones on the top of her wall had all been taken off and left on the floor, and one to say that cars are being parked inconsiderately on Station Road. I know things are difficult, it can be hard to find a parking space, and sometimes you need to chat with others, but if you could be mindful of the local area this would really help with our standing in the community. Thank you.
Please, please read the newsletter every week! It is a critical way of communicating with you all, and you may miss something important if you don’t check it.
Face masks
Thank you to those who have chosen to wear face masks whilst in the school grounds. At the moment, it is optional, but should the number of cases in our locality increase further, I will be asking you all to wear them for the safety of everyone.
Next week, children in years 3,4,5 and 6 will be taking part in a survey (organised by South Gloucestershire) to help support the recovery curriculum, as all pupils return to full time education post Coronavirus. It will provide an opportunity for pupils to voice their opinions on some health and wellbeing themes. Our school will get feedback on our pupils’ survey data and this will help us to monitor the wellbeing of our pupils over time. The survey does not ask for any identifiable information such as name, date of birth or address.
This week's book recommendations come from Hedgehogs and Badgers
Mrs English recommends the book 'The Colour Monster’ especially the pop up version. It explores lots of different feelings we can all relate to. One day, colour monster wakes up feeling confused. His emotions are all over the place; he feels angry, happy, calm, sad and scared all at once! To help him a little girl shows him what each feeling means through colour. Hedgehog class love listening to this story.
Seth from Hedgehog class recommends the book ‘Owl babies’ . The owl mother flies away and leaves her babies but she comes back to them at the end! Seth enjoys reading it at school and at home with his family.
Miss Hudson says: "I really enjoyed reading the book ‘The Explorer’ by Katherine Rundell. I’ve never visited the Amazon rainforest but I feel like I have been there after reading this book. Some children get stranded in the Amazon and it is their mission to find their way home! With lots of animals and survival techniques, you can join these children on this amazing adventure. I would highly recommend this book!"
Emma from Badgers class says: "I recommend ‘Code it Cody’ by Jodie and Ben Cook. I like the book because it makes you want to read on. It’s so exciting! It’s got a lot of description and describing words. It also has a funny name in it – Mr Chip. The book is all about computers but not too much! I would recommend this book to everyone!"
