Dear parents /carers
I wanted to share a picture of a beautiful painting of the Clock Tower, by Erin in Year 6. She did this in Term 1 as part of her learning during the theme of Belonging. We are proud of Erin, her hard work and her lovely painting, which we have framed to go up in the school building.
Next week is a focus week on The Colour Monster. Each class will be learning about different emotions and how we can manage them to keep ourselves safe and ready to learn. The children will be learning all about self-regulation and strategies to help them stay calm
We will also be working on anti-bullying next week – to raise awareness of this we would like the children to wear odd socks on Monday, for Odd Socks day!
Covid related updates:
Thank you to everyone who is being so careful to make sure that Covid does not have too big an impact on the school community. Just a reminder that if you or your child has symptoms, you must get a test (we have some in school if you find this a struggle), and you must self-isolate. If the test comes back negative, the children can return to school; if it is positive, we ask that you inform us straight away so that we can contact the local public health team to determine next steps. If a parent tests positive, there is not likely to be any closure of bubbles; however, if a child tests positive, then we have to look at ‘close contacts’ to decide who needs to self-isolate.
The most recent guidance for parents from the Department for Education can be found here:
We are still thinking about ways to improve the start and end of the day for parents, particularly now that the grounds are so muddy and waiting for children to come in or leave can get messy! It would be extremely helpful if parents who are waiting could stick to one side of the pathways, particularly from the Station Road entrance and outside the EYFS, Y1 and Y2 classes. This would enable people to pass by. We are also looking at different suggestions from parents – please feel free to email me via the office if you have a good idea! You are the ones who are ‘in it’ so I am very open to your thoughts on this.
Christmas Shop
The PSFA will be putting on the ever-popular Christmas shop this year. The cost will be £3 per gift and a variety of gifts will be available for children to choose from. For the shop to take place in a Covid safe way, each child taking part will need to bring a labelled bag in with them on the day for their gifts to be kept in. To reduce cash handling, payment will need to be made via SIMS Pay.
Further details and the exact date will be released shortly.
Non-uniform day
There will be a non-uniform day held on behalf of the PSFA on Friday 4th December. We kindly ask for a donation from each child (suggested minimum amount of 50p) with all funds being donated back to the school, which will be used to hold a Christmas crafts afternoon.
Virtual Raffle
In the absence of the Christmas Fair the PSFA are holding a virtual raffle. Tickets will be £1 each with the draw winners being announced via social media on Friday 11th. Exact details to be confirmed.
If anyone is willing and able to donate any prizes for the raffle please get in touch, they will be gratefully received.

This week, the book recommendations come from Miss McCormick and Deer class.
Miss McCormick recommends ‘Framed’ by Frank Cottrell-Boyce.
If you like reading adventure/ crime stories with lots of laughs, a touch of sadness, great characters and suspense, then this book is for you! The narrator is nine-year-old Dylan, the only boy left in the Welsh town of Manod, who writes in the style of a diary as he records carefully observed, daily events in a petrol station log book. The story is based on real life history (in WWII a collection of valuable paintings from the National Gallery in London were evacuated to Wales and stored in slate mines for safe keeping). When Dylan discovers that famous works of art have been brought from the floods in London to the slate mines of Manod, the crime of the century falls into his lap. He is definitely not about to get involved in a robbery………..or is he….?
Miss Hannan recommends the book 'Tadpole's Promise' by Jeanne Willis.
"It is a beautiful book illustrated by Tony Ross. The story follows the friendship of a tadpole and a caterpillar and has an unexpected twist at the end. I first read this book when I was at university and have loved it ever since!"
Marion in Deer class recommends the book 'Pattan's Pumpkin' by Chitra Soundar. This is Deer class' key text this term. Marion says she would recommend this book because it is a fun and exciting story that keeps you wondering what will happen next. "I love the pictures because they are so bright and pretty. I think everyone should read this book!".
Year 2 Phonics Screening Check
