Dear parents / carers
An enormous thank you to all of you for your efforts with home learning. You are amazing! We know it is difficult, so please remember, you can only do what you can do. Keep giving us feedback on how you are finding the whole process.
Some tips for this week:
It can be really frustrating to sit and struggle through an activity with your children, so please put time limits on the activities and if children can’t do something, stop. Then message us via tapestry or google classroom to let the teachers know.
Please don’t spend more than 3 hours a day (EYFS and KS1) or 4 hours a day (KS2) on school learning. If you are unable to do everything in this time, then we need to know so that we can review what is being set. You and your children also need a break, and to get back to being parents and children rather than teachers with pupils.
Prioritise maths, reading & writing
The timetable suggested by teachers is just a suggestion. Decide with your children what you want to do and when, using the timetable as a guide.
Please also prioritise the weekly meeting which will be via zoom or google meet. We want to see everyone and know that they are ok. It is important that children keep their cameras on for these meetings, and that they use the opportunity to talk to each other!
We have now included the answers for the maths questions to enable self-marking as children would do in school. They then need to look at where they went wrong and work to correct the answers, as they would in school. Having the answers there is to support thinking and learning when we make mistakes!
Not all of the feedback from teachers will be detailed so if you have any questions about the learning please continue to ask them via the feed
Risk assessment. The updated risk assessment is on the website – there is now a section for remote learning
Y5 Christmas cards. Before lockdown, the Year 5 children made Christmas cards to send to parishioners of St Stephens church. These were extremely well received, with one parishioner saying that this is the only card she has kept up after Christmas as it means so much to her. Thank you to Year 5, for brightening up the community, and thank you to Mrs Symons for organising!
Foodbank. Here is January’s shopping list for the Foodbank. Once again, we are happy to collect items in school if you are unable to take them to Resound. Please leave any items in the lobby.
Tinned food: Chicken in white wine sauce, minced beef, small tins of ham and chicken
Other: UHT milk – semi and whole, potted meat spreads, 100g jars of nice coffee, small bottles of squash
Reading News
Reading is a fantastic way to leave behind our everyday lives and escape into imaginary worlds or get immersed in finding out new information. Probably needed more so now during our current situation!
Bug Club
We recently sent out information about our new reading programme called Bug Club. Hopefully your child has managed to log in and is enjoying the vast array of books on offer. If you are having trouble logging in, please speak to your child's class teacher.
First News
If your child is interested in current affairs, First News, a weekly newspaper aimed at 7 to 14 year olds is offering free access during lockdown. There's a mix of world news and UK news as well as games, animals, sport and puzzles. They cover lots of positive stories too and celebrate what is good about the world.
Blue Peter have launched Blue Peter on YouTube at CBBC, for entertainment outside of home-schooling hours now that we’re in lockdown.
Blue Peter is the longest running kids TV show in the world and they are uploading videos to it that are suitable for 5-11 year olds. They have world record breaking challenges, arts and crafts, environmental videos, how to cook and bake, inspirational films, gaming, celebrity appearances, dance routines and music performances. They also feature ways of getting a Blue Peter badge, behind the scenes footage and extra content about their incredible presenters Adam, Lindsey, Mwaksy, Richie and Henry the Blue Peter dog.
If you are interested in this, please subscribe to https://www.youtube.com/bluepeter - (it’s obviously completely free to subscribe!) and don’t forget to watch the live programme on CBBC at 5.00pm every week, or on BBC iPlayer.
