Dear parents and carers
We have made it to half term and I would just like to say well done to everyone for all of the hard work you have put in. You have been amazing! It has been brilliant to see how you have kept your children going with their learning – we know it has often been tough work. I hope the weather is kind next week, and you can enjoy time together where you aren’t having to try and work at home as well as home school your children!
Remote learning will begin again on Monday 22nd February - it’s really important that you keep your children engaged with their learning as best as you can. Hopefully we will be able to have everyone return and be back together with their friends and class mates from the 8th March.
I would also like to thank all of the staff for their sterling work this term, running remote learning and working face to face with children in school and all of those who work behind the scenes to make sure the school can be open to those who need it. Everyone has been brilliant!
Have a happy and healthy half term!
All You Need is Love
The response to our All You Need is Love project has been truly heart-warming, from the windows I have seen on my drive to school, to the displays in school, and the photographs you have sent in to share what you have been doing at home. Here are photos of the displays around school:
Half term Covid contact
As in previous holidays, there is a specific contact to make should the children have any confirmed cases of covid, particularly in those who have been in school. This is so that we can make calls to anyone who has had contact with the case and ask them to isolate. Details are attached to this newsletter.
Mathletics
Whilst I know that some families use Mathletics regularly, and really benefit from having access to it, it is unfortunately very costly and we currently don’t get value for money from the several thousands of pounds we pay to subscribe to it. We have therefore taken the decision that we will not be renewing our subscription this year. I am sorry to those who use it regularly, but it is not currently sustainable. The subscription will end in March.
Please see the attached leaflet for a parents guide on what to do if your child tests positive for COVID over the half-term break.

The CBBC team have made an exciting revamp to the CBBC YouTube Channel. This may be of interest to pupils and parents for entertainment at half term and outside of home-schooling hours.
They are uploading videos to it daily that are suitable for 5-11 year olds. All the top CBBC brands are on there, with a wide range of genres from factual shows, news, dramas, comedy to entertainment. Programmes like Horrible Histories, Blue Peter, Newsround, The Next Step, Saturday Mash-Up, Operation Ouch, the Playlist, the Dumping Ground, Heirs of the Night and Jamie Johnson. They are also welcoming back Dani Harmer in the brilliant new programme My Mum Tracy Beaker.
If you are interested in this, please subscribe to www.youtube.com/cbbc - (it’s obviously completely free to subscribe!) and don’t forget to watch the CBBC channel live daily and on the BBC iPlayer.
Every day is a day to celebrate reading but we will especially be celebrating the joy of books on World Book Day on Thursday 4th March. We have had to adapt our plans slightly to cater for our current situation but still want everyone to be fully involved.
Every year group is busy choosing a book or author to look at in detail on the day. In the week beginning the 1st March, each day your child will be given a clue or a hint to help you guess what the book/author may be. On Thursday 4th all will be revealed! The day will be spent completing activities based on the chosen book/author. Everyone will be involved whether you are learning from home or from school.
Unfortunately we won't be able to hold our 'Bedtime stories' this year - however, we still want your child to enjoy curling up with a story. You will be sent a link to our You Tube channel on Thursday 4th and your child can enjoy listening to a story read by their teacher.
On Monday 1st March, your child will be given a Reading 'jigsaw' - with lots of fun and engaging activities based around the love of reading. We encourage your child to choose one reading activity to complete every day that week.
We can't wait to celebrate World Book Day with you.
This week, Mrs Haydon and Woodpecker class give their book recommendations.
Mr Griffiths recommends:
'Kidnapped! The Hundred Mile an Hour Dog’s Sizzling Summer' by Jeremy Strong
"This is a great story about a dog called Streaker causing trouble while on holiday on a French campsite with his family. I like this story as the description is great and really makes you think you are with Streaker on the campsite causing trouble. The plot of the story is also very interesting for the reader. Laughs and jokes are entwined with a story of criminals that are up to no good. The mixture of tense action, suspense and laughs kept me interested throughout the entire book. I would recommend this book as a daily read or even a bedtime story."
'Bella Broomstick: Magic Mistakes' by Lou Kuenzler
"I like this book because it is very funny. The characters are interesting especially Bella. She is the best because she gets a lot of stuff wrong and then figures out a way to get it right again! I would definitely recommend this book."
"I absolutely loved this book! So much that I read the two sequels, 'The Elsewhere Emporium' and 'The Otherwhere Emporium'. The three books feature Daniel, who begins a magical journey into different worlds when he visits The Emporium, a mysterious shop which appears from nowhere. The books are well-paced and really enjoyable reads. There is something for everyone here – magical places, a story of good versus bad, and plenty of adventure!"
