Dear Parents and carers
May I take this opportunity to thank you for all of your endeavours over the past weeks. Thank you especially to those who have been home schooling – your efforts are very much appreciated! We can’t wait to see your children and to catch up with everyone on Monday!
A few reminders ready for Monday:
- School starts for EYFS/Y1 and Y3 at 8.40 and ends at 3.10. For all other year groups school starts at 8.50 and ends at 3.20
- Parents must wear a mask on the school site.
- Children should wear their full school uniform where possible, but we do appreciate they may have grown out of things which you are currently unable to purchase. In this case, please ensure the children are smart. Y6 should wear their ties. The classrooms will be well ventilated so warm clothing is also advisable
- Please maintain social distance between yourselves and other parents at all times; we have removed the one way system for now replacing it with ‘use the gate nearest to your child’s classroom’
- Hot lunches will be provided as usual – the menu has been sent out today. Children will be eating in their classrooms to help reduce contact with other groups.
Thank you
Red Nose Day
A reminder that Red Nose Day takes place on Friday 19th March and we will be having a dress down day. The theme is ‘Get set to show your super powers.’ Children can dress up as superheroes, or in red, or in Red Nose Day merchandise, and make a small donation (50p-£1) to raise money for Comic Relief.
Covid testing kits for families
You may have heard that all families of primary school children can now carry out lateral flow tests twice a week. Below is a link for a letter from the local authority with information about how to access these tests. Also on this letter is some very useful guidance about how we are preparing to get back to a more ‘normal’ school life, and how you can support your children with any anxieties they may have about re-joining their class.

In Bulgaria on 1st March it is a special Spring Festival called Baba Marta. In EYFS on Monday we learned about Baba Marta with Mrs Mihaylova and the tradition of making red and white Martenitsa bracelets to celebrate Spring. Happy Baba Marta!
Southern Brooks are hosting a live music & migrant rights event this week.
Details:
Friday 5th March 19.00 – 20.30: Migrants & Music: live music from your sofa
Here’s information on the brilliant artists involved in the show:
The music: will be incredible.
The politics: will be succinct. We're raising awareness on EU migrant rights in the UK after Brexit. EVERYONE is invited because the aim is community, musical joy and expanding awareness on key issues that affect all of us. We want EU nationals to know about their rights and UK nationals to know how to support their neighbours, family and friends.
The cost: it's donation based. All payment is fine, we just want you there.
The invitation:
- Please add this your calendar, book via eventbrite and see you on Friday.
- Can you help spread the word? Passing this onto friends and colleagues really helps us reach people new to this issue.
This week, Fox class and Mrs Sutherland give their book recommendations.
Mr Mead recommends 'Journey' by Aaron Becker
"It has some beautiful illustrations and really makes you think about what makes you happy. The book has no words so you get to make up your own journey and story to go along with the pictures. I loved thinking about what I would draw with my magic pencil.”
“I recommend 'Stuck' by Oliver Jeffers because it is a really fun book to read and is really silly. I love the illustrations and guessing what the boy was going to throw in the tree.” By Veda
Mrs Sutherland recommends 'The Explorer' by Katherine Rundell
'The Explorer' is a wonderful adventure story. It tells us about a group of children who amazingly survive when their plane crashes in the middle of the Amazon Jungle. They learn how to survive and find themselves on an adventure to a ruined city and a secret.
I’ve read this great book with my family – we were hooked from the beginning."
