Dear parents and carers
I hope you are looking forward to a long weekend, I know I certainly am! This week we introduced the children to ‘Trixie the Pixie,’ who lives in the Tynings tree. She doesn’t always know how to be kind to her friends, so has come to school to learn from our children. Trixie has received lots of letters this week! She will also be having her photo taken with kindness champions. This week we have Elsie from Hedgehogs, Zane from Squirrels and Summer from Foxes as our champions. Thank you and well done to them!
Tynings to Tokyo!
We launched our daily mile ‘Tynings to Tokyo’ trek today. The children have begun to use our new daily mile track, and between now and the end of term aim to run to Tokyo ready for the Olympics. Mr Griffiths is keeping tally of the number of miles we are all running to see if we can get there!
Staffing news:
Miss Kaur is going to be have an exciting year! In July she is getting married and moving house! Unfortunately for us, she is relocating to near London, and so we will be saying goodbye at the end of this academic year. Miss Kaur began with us as an NQT and has grown into a fantastic teacher and leader – she will be greatly missed, and her new school are very lucky to have her. We carried out interviews for her replacement yesterday, and I am pleased to say that we have appointed Jason Stanton, an experienced teacher who will work in Year 6 and become our maths lead.
Local voting
Next Thursday there will be a cabin in the car park for people to use as a polling station. We take great care to keep our children safe when the school is used as a polling station. Residents will be signposted to the front of the school and our gates will be kept locked as usual to prevent people coming onto site during the school day. Staff will also be around at the beginning and end of the day to ensure no one is on site who shouldn’t be. This system has worked very successfully in previous years.
The PSFA would like to say a huge thank you to everyone for taking part in the Smarties challenge before Easter. We raised a total of £735!
Book recommendations return this week and it is the turn of Deer and Kestrel classes.
Miss Hannan recommends the book 'Little Mouse's Big Book of Fears'
"I recommend this because it is a great book that teaches us that everyone is scared of something and even the bravest person can sometimes feel small. This book is packed full of surprises with flaps and nibbled holes. It is an excellent picture book which teaches us a very important message."
Reece from Deer class recommends the book 'The Marvellous Moon Map'.
"This story is about a little mouse who goes on a journey to find the moon. I like this book because it has lots of powerful description. My favourite part is when mouse and bear stick together and find the beautiful sunset. I would recommend this book because it teaches you a lesson about friendship and overcoming your fears."
Miss Kaur says
"A recent book that I have thoroughly enjoyed reading to my Kestrel class is Neal Layton’s ‘A Planet full of Plastic’. It is a brilliant and interesting non-fiction book highlighting the huge plastic waste issue on our planet. It was written from the viewpoint of a young boy finding out about plastic, what it's used for, what the problems are and solutions that scientists have thought of to solve the plastic waste problem. I love reading non-fiction books in my spare time as I enjoy learning lots of new information and facts and more importantly, learning about how to become a responsible Global Citizen to make our world a more healthy and sustainable place. I cannot recommend this super-interesting book enough!"
Ellena Gething enjoys 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows' by J K Rowling
“I like the book as it has lots of action and drama. As well as this, I enjoyed learning lots of new words too. My favourite chapter was the last chapter where Voldemort and Harry Potter have a massive duel. I would recommend this book for Year 4+ especially if you like magic and wizardry. I don’t want to say any more to avoid SPOILERS!”
