Dear parents and carers
Yesterday we were visited by our ‘Challenge and Support Partner’ from the local authority, Mr Downing. He came to ‘inspect’ our progress, and I am pleased to say he went home a very happy man! He observed some excellent geography teaching in Year 6, (and children showing great learning attitudes!), and looked at geography, history and art books with subject leaders. He was very pleased with what he saw! Part 2 is next week, when English, maths and science will be looked at in more depth. Thank you to all of the children and staff for making sure Mr Downing saw the school and the work we have been doing in such a favourable light. These visits help to support our school in being ready for our next Ofsted inspection and of course, securing the ‘good’ (or better!) judgement that we are ready for.
More good news! Our Forest School area is complete, thanks to funding from the PFSA, who provided funds to buy wood chippings for the whole area, gravel, a fire wok and bag, welly removers and water container. Mrs Pike says, "The PSFA's funding means we have created a wonderful area for us to use in Forest School. It makes our time outside special and allows children to learn new things and have new exciting experiences. Thank you!"
Tynings to Tokyo Daily Mile Challenge
So far, we have walked/run 2047 laps which is 409,400M or 256 miles or 136,467 alligators long. This means so far on our journey we have just reached the Netherlands! We have been really impressed with the effort of the children. They seem to love the running!
Fidget toys
We have an ever-increasing number of children who are bringing fidget toys into school, often several at a time. As a school, we have given these out to specific children who need them so that they can use them in class to help support their learning. However, there seems to be a trend to bring them in and play with them rather than use them for the purpose they are designed for. If you feel your child needs a fidget toy, and you wish to provide one, please liaise with the class teacher. Please can you also ensure that only one is brought into school at any time? Thank you.
A few points to note!
- Friday school dinner menu. We have agreed that Friday will always be fish fingers, rather than fishcakes or Pollock, as we know the children much prefer fish fingers!
- The school gates will now be opened at 3pm at the end of the school day, rather than earlier, in order to maintain the safe environment for our children.
Exciting Future Project - The Rocket
We are hoping to acquire a double decker bus, which will be converted to include a café style area for lunch break club, a sensory room and a play/breakout space.
This is in the very early stages of planning and I need some help with costing the project. I’m looking for a general builder/electrician/carpenter/decorator who would be willing to meet me to go through the initial plans and give me some idea on prices etc. If you know anyone who may be interested, please drop me a line [email protected].
Book recommendations this week come from Hedgehogs and Pine Martens.
Mrs Leach recommends 'The Dog That Dug' by Jonathan Long.
"We have a lot of 'Winnie the Witch' fans in EYFS and Year 1. 'Winnie The Witch' books have been a popular choice recently from Mrs Haydon's special book box that the children can choose from when they achieve 100 reads. My story recommendation this week shares the same illustrator as the 'Winnie The Witch' books and is called 'The Dog That Dug' by Jonathan Long. Korky Paul always adds fun and humour to his illustrations and 'The Dog That Dug' is a brilliant example of his illustrations at their best! I enjoyed this book as a child and now my son loves reading it too. The mischievious dog finds all sorts of expected things when he decides to dig underground!"
