Dear parents/carers
Next week sees the first PSFA event of the new year, with the discos on Thursday. We are really looking forward to seeing the children have a boogie and enjoy the music. We know from past experience, that children also really enjoy the tuck shop – sometimes too much! Sometimes children are bringing in as much as £10 just to spend on the stall, which equates to an enormous pile of sweets which the children tuck into with relish. However, we are mindful that this is probably too much, so would like to ask that you try not to send too much money with your children; really, they only need a couple of pounds at the most, and they will still have plenty to buy. Thank you for your support in this.
The PSFA are working hard to put on lots of different events so that we can raise money to improve our outdoor spaces. We have asked several companies to come in and give us quotes to re-surface the play area we currently have fenced off, to build a multi-use games area on the top of the field and to create a hard surface play area for EYFS and Year 1 at the back of the school – as you can imagine, all of these cost a huge amount of money which school budgets just can’t afford. We rely on you and our PSFA to help us with projects like this – so thank you very much!!
Lois Haydon, Head Teacher
As you can see some of our children have been making the most of the mud and showing their creative side, having said that, more of our children have just enjoyed playing in the mud! For all children to be able to enjoy the great British weather and the effect it is currently having on our saturated ground we thought that it may be helpful to let you know the best kit list in our opinion.
Old warm clothes - so that they are not wearing their uniforms at all, avoiding the risk of mud transferring as they take their outer layers off.
Waterproof coat and trousers or salopettes or an all in one.
Wellies – essential.
Hats, gloves and scarves as necessary – spare, old ones are best as they will probably get muddy.
Some of the children have been complaining about cold feet so a warm pair of socks may be appreciated too.
Please could you also supply your child with an old bag to pack their muddy gear in.
Thank you for your continuing support.
Next weeks classes are:

Tuesday – Kingfisher and Hedgehog

This week's recommendations are from Fox & Bat class.
Rose from Fox Class says:
“I Love 'Fox in the Socks' by Dr. Seuss because it has lots of funny rhymes and tongue twisters. It is fun to try and see how fast you can read it without making any mistakes"
Mr Mead recommends 'Sulwe' by Lupita Nyong’o.
“Sulwe is about a young girl who feels she is not beautiful and compares herself to all of the other children. Sulwe goes on amazing journey to learn to love who she is and how proud she should be of herself. It is wonderfully illustrated and teaches a beautiful message.”
Kamon in Bats says:
"I like this 'Dogman' book by Dav Pilker, because it is written like a cartoon with speech bubbles and it has pages you can flip so it looks like the characters are moving. At the back it shows you how to draw the characters. This book is funny."
Mrs Board recommends 'The Hundred-Mile-An-Hour Dog by Jeremy Strong
'The Hundred-Mile-An-Hour Dog' is a book I love reading to my class. It is about a dog called Streaker who is described as a rocket on four legs with a woof attached. His owner, a boy called Trevor, has the unfortunate job of trying to train him during the holidays. I always get a lot of laughs when I read this to my class. Definitely one to give a go.
Total attendance for the week: 96.8%
Best class attendance: Hedgehogs & Woodpeckers 100%
Best house attendance: Eastleigh 97.8%
Whole school attendance managed to stay green, even though there were 4 amber classes and 3 red ones. Congraulations to Hedgehogs and Woodpeckers for having 100% attendance, the second week in a row for Hedgehogs! Please try to improve attendance for rhe rest of the term.
