Dear parents and carers
A Thursday newsletter for a change, with a reminder that tomorrow – Friday 25th June – is an inset day, so no children will be in school. I hope you have a lovely long weekend!
Uniform
Following on from the communications regarding uniform suppliers, I just wanted to let you know that it will still be ok to wear uniform with our old logo on it. I know that there will be ‘hand-me-downs’ which are in good condition, and that items with a logo on can be costly. If you have uniform that is still wearable, please continue to use it. Please also remember that PE hoodies should only be worn on PE days!
Swimming
In primary schools, the national curriculum states that we should enable children to learn how to swim up to 25 metres. We do this by adding swimming lessons in key stage two classes. Covid-19 has had a significant impact on this over the past two years, with pools closed and children not able to go to lessons. For the coming year, we are changing to a block booking system, rather than weekly sessions. This means that when it is the turn of your child to go swimming, they will go every day for a whole week. Swimming for the next academic year will be in Years 4, 5, and 6. Mr Griffiths will be in touch regarding who will be going and when so that you have plenty of notice.

This week, Bat class and Mrs Symons give their book recommendations.
Mrs Board recommends 'Varjak Paw' by SF Said.
"This book is about a kitten who has never left home but one day he needs to in order to rescue his family. Varjak must use the Way (a secret martial arts for cats) to survive in a city full of dangerous dogs, cat gangs and strangest of all, the mysterious vanishings.
I am reading this to my class at the moment and they are finding it really exciting with plenty of action and tension."
Bella in Bat Class recommends 'Dog Man For Whom the Ball Rolls' by Dav Pilkey.
"This book is presented like a cartoon with bright, colour pictures. There are fliporamas where you have to turn a couple of pages really quickly and it looks like the characters are moving. I like the character Petey because he’s mischievous and naughty. In this book there is a rat and the rat swallows lots of balls and turns into a butterfly! Very strange but very funny!"
"My choice this term is a funny story about a little girl who lies! During the story we meet a gorilla, a witch, a huge snake, a giant, a crocodile and the big, bad wolf! And if that’s not enough Claire also encounters a UFO! When she gets home, what will she tell her mum?"
