It is so wonderful to be back! School has felt very calm and settled this week – thank you for making sure your children were ready to return!
A special welcome to our new Reception children who have had their first full day with us today, plus lunch! Another special welcome to our new members of staff: Mr Stanton, Kestrels class teacher, Miss Cox, Falcons class teacher on Thursdays and Fridays, Mrs Dowding, Kingfishers class teacher and Mrs Thomas, Hedgehogs class teaching assistant. You may also have noticed new faces in Woodpeckers and Hedgehogs. Mr Griffiths is currently on paternity leave, so Miss Morey is teaching his class for two weeks. Mr Griffiths’ partner gave birth to a baby boy in the early hours of Monday this week. Congratulations to them both! Sadly, Mrs Leach is taking some time out this term, as she has suffered a very close bereavement. I am sure you will join me in sending her our best wishes. Miss Myhill is teaching Hedgehogs on Mondays and Tuesdays accordingly.
It has been great to see our new play equipment used so avidly this week. The children have really enjoyed clambering over everything and seeing the children sitting on the artificial grass and chatting has been wonderful.
It would be really helpful if the children were not playing on the equipment before and after school – there is no supervision from school staff at this point and I would hate for anyone to be injured. Thank you

School Uniform
All of the children look smart and have return to school wearing correct uniform – despite issues once again with Monkhouse. (I am still waiting for parts of my daughter’s school uniform, and visited the store in person – I feel your pain!)
Thank you for not bombarding us with your complaints about Monkhouse. We signed a new contract with them last term, but are now looking to see what we can do about this, as the service is not what we were guaranteed. I am perfectly happy to see our children wear uniform without logo as long as the children are smart, but I appreciate that the logo helps us all to feel like we are part of the community. I do know that some of you had great success with Monkhouse too. I will keep you up to date with any developments!
We have a brand new Facebook page ‘The Tynings School’ – please look for us and follow what we are doing.
After school clubs:
We are running a number of different clubs this year – see attached. Please talk to your children about what they might like to join in with, then return the form with your child’s name and class and tick the clubs they are interested in. Where a club is oversubscribed, we may alternate groups of children each term to increase opportunities for more children. Some of the clubs will have KS1 children for a term and then KS2 children for a term, and continue this way for the year. We will send out updated clubs lists each term. Bristol Sports will also continue to run clubs for us – these are the only ones requiring a fee.

Covid regulations
Attached is a poster from the local authority detailing when it is necessary to isolate. Thank you for your support in how this is currently being managed, even though it is a bit daunting for some of us.

A few reminders!
Key Stage 2 children are very welcome to bring in a snack for breaktime, but this should be fruit only
Children should not be riding bikes or scooters within the school grounds.
Children do not need to bring in their own pencil cases. We provide the equipment they need.
Advance notice! The PSFA AGM will be held on Tuesday 12th October at 7.15. Everyone is welcome! The PSFA is a critical group of parents, staff and friends who lead fundraising activities including school discos, and the Christmas and Summer Fairs, to enable the school to purchase the special ‘extras.’ We couldn’t do without them. All parents are automatically ‘friends’ of the school, but we are also looking for committee members who would be happy to dedicate ideas and time to putting on fundraising activities. We always welcome new ideas!
