Dear parents and carers
We have had a very settled week here at The Tynings; the children have been getting on with some brilliant learning!
We have continued to think about being safe in school – I spoke to Y5 and Y6 children about how they can model sharing with the younger children, particularly around play equipment that we have out at lunchtimes. The Y5 and Y6 children spoke very responsibly about what they can to do help, and how we can make sure that they themselves have equipment to play with too.
Harvest
Thank you for all of your FoodBank donations – these have been collected and taken to Resound. One thing I didn’t mention last week, was the beautiful Harvest Loaf that Ryan's, from Kingfisher class, mum gave to us. Staff and children enjoyed a chunk of this at the end of last week. Thank you so much for preparing it for us!
Mrs Leach
I am pleased to say that Mrs Leach returns to school from Monday – we welcome her back with open arms. Many thanks to Miss Myhill who ensured Hedgehogs class had a good start to their time with us.
We would love it if you could spend a couple of minutes giving us feedback via the ParentView link below. We are keen to make sure your views are heard, so that we can continue to work with you to improve the school.

Facebook and Twitter
Just a reminder that we have a new Facebook page to share the children’s learning and activities with you. Please take a look. We will continue to use our Twitter account for this purpose too. We want to make sure that people in our immediate community can see what brilliant things our children get up to whilst they are at The Tynings.
The PSFA is the official name for a group of parents, staff and friends of the school who take the lead in supporting the teaching staff and pupils throughout their journey at the Tynings by providing funding for those memorable moments such as seeing the chicks hatch in year 2 or meeting a published author in year 4.
Our AGM is happening on 12thOctober 2021 at 7.15pm in the school’s main hall and we would encourage anybody to come along as many hands make light work.
We are currently looking for some additional volunteers to join the committee as three of our current members have decided to step down.
The posts available are Chair, Deputy Chair and Treasurer. Traditionally the Chair's roles have been leading the committee members who oversee the activities and make things happen, whilst the Treasurer is responsible for ensuring that the money is looked after correctly and dealing with the charity commission paperwork.
Since October 2019, the current committee have been focused on delivering events and activities for the school community and it has been very much a team effort as we have worked together to move the PSFA forward. If you feel that you may wish to take on one of these roles, please come along to the meeting on Tuesday.
Straight after the AGM, there will be an ordinary meeting where those present will be asked to share their views on what should happen next and start the planning process for the forthcoming events.
Bristol Sport will be running a holiday club at school over the October break. Please see the attached poster for more information and booking details.

The Woodland Players Drama Group (based at Our Lady of Lourdes Kingswood), are pleased to be able to share with you details of their next production on the 3rd and 4th of December, which is a comedy, based in a primary school and shares the laughter and tears of the newly qualified teacher directing her first nativity play!
Tickets are only £8 (with a small booking fee) but they promise this to be an evening full of laughter!
Tickets are available from www.ticketsource.co.uk/woodlandplayers

This week sees the return of book reviews, with recommendations from Fox and Falcon classes.
Miss Curtis’s recommendation is 'Smile' by Raina Telgemeier
"We recently bought some graphic novels for KS2 so I thought I would try a new one to see if this is just as good.
It is funny, sad, touching and very moving about a girl who just wants to fit in like everyone else and be a normal school girl. One night, after her scout meeting, she trips and falls. This causes her two front teeth to be seriously injured. This only gets worse when it leads to one problem after another.
If you like humorous graphic novels this is a great one to try!"
Ben from Falcon Class recomends 'Land of Roar' by Jenny McLachlan
"I recommend Land of Roar because it is very exciting and dramatic. Here is my summary of the book:
Arthur and Rose are twins. They clear out the attic and Arthur finds a map of Roar. Their Grandad goes missing inside a camp bed and disappears. Arthur looks for him but he can’t find him. He goes searching and ends up in the Land of Roar where lots of adventure awaits them!"
Mr Mead recommends ‘Because’ by Mo Willems.
"I recommend this book because it celebrates dreaming and what can happen when ones' dreams and experiences come together! It is also a book that celebrates anyone who has taken, or intends to take, someone special to the theatre or a concert and celebrates the power of music and art and how it makes us feel. This book will keep everyone cherishing the moment when it all came together!”
Annabelle recommends 'Windows' by Julia Denos
“I recommend 'Windows' because it lets us see that we are different and unique. I loved looking in the background and looking through all the different windows to see what everyone was doing. It also has lovely illustrations.”
