Dear parents and carers
A big thank you to the PSFA for holding the first discos in what feels like a very long time. They were a great success. Thanks must also go to the outgoing Chair, Vice Chair and Treasurer – Lisa, Caroline and Charlotte who, along with the committee have valiantly carried on raising much needed funds for the school during a pandemic. Huge thanks to Natalie, Audrey and Paul who have stepped into these roles.
It was somewhat disappointing that the only people at the PFSA AGM this week were the committee! I feel very lucky that we have found people who will step into the above roles, but I do need to urge you to give your support. We cannot run discos, Christmas and Summer Fairs and other events if we don’t have your support and help. I know many of you do, and we really appreciate this, but I feel that the committee could do with an increase in members if you are able to join them.
The next PFSA meeting is on Thursday 4th November at 5.30 in Badgers class. This meeting is for planning the Christmas Fair – please come along to share your ideas and offer your help!!
STAFFING
Mrs Symons is retiring at the end of next week having been a member of Team Tynings since joining in 2013 as a class teacher and, more recently, as a PPA teacher. We wish Mrs Symons all the very best in her retirement and I am sure you will all send her your best wishes too. We do have a collection running, in the office, which you are more than welcome to contribute to if you so wish.
PARENTS CONSULATION EVENINGS
These will be held on Tuesday 9th and Wednesday 10th November, after school, and face to face! We are looking forward to having you back into school so that you can see the learning your children have been doing and meet with their teachers. You will be able to book these consultation meetings after the half term break; this will be via Arbor.
SCHOOL PHOTOGRAPHS
The photographer will be in school on Tuesday 9th November taking individual pictures of all of the children for our records. There will also be photos taken of family groups within school. As ever, you will receive a proof of the photo, which you can then choose to purchase copies of.
We are hoping to book a photographer to do family groups to include siblings out of school, in the not too distant future. This will take place on a Saturday morning. Look out for further details!
ONLINE LEARNING
Just a reminder that the school subscribes to Times Tables Rockstars (TTRS) and Numbots. The children should all have their login for this (it is the same for both) and we positively encourage the children to use them at home to develop their number fluency. If you aren’t sure of the login, please contact your child’s class teacher. Several inter school competitions will be held on TTRS after half term.
NEW DISPLAYS!
This week we have had installed a brand new mural inside the front of the school, showing all of the wildlife that our classes are named after – we love it! We have also had a new welcome sign put in at the front of the school which we are very proud of.
This week it is the turn of Robins and Badgers to give their book reviews.
Miss Hudson recommends:
'The Sea Book' by Charlotte Milner
"This text is non-fiction which means you learn a lot of interesting facts about everything sea related! It teaches you about the layers of the ocean, some interesting life that lives in the ocean that you may not know about and all about the consequences human activity has on them. I find the plastic pollution section of this book particularly interesting and it always shocks children when I read this part to them!"
Rosie from Badgers recommends:
'The Colour Monster' by Anna Llenas
"I like 'The Colour Monster' because it talks about your feelings. It said if you’re angry, sad, calm, happy and afraid, you could ask a friend for help. You would really like to read this book!"
Miss Davies recommends ‘What makes me a me?’ by Ben Faulkes
"I recommend this book because it is an enjoyable and lovely read about a little boy on a journey of self discovery. He compares himself to lots of things in search of discovering what makes him special and unique. I recommend this book to everyone and anyone as it is such a great read!"
Poppy from Robins recommends ‘ The Runaway Orange’ by Felicity Brooks & Jo Litchfield
"I recommend this book because it has dogs in it and they are my favourite animals. It is very funny."
Please see the leaflet below for a Halloween cratfs course being run by the Community Learning & Skills Service in the holiday. It is inteded for children to attend with their parents/carers.
