Dear parents and carers
Thank you for your kind donations to Children In Need last week. Together with Fatimah’s donation we raised a grand total of £472, which is fantastic!
This week we have continued to learn about bullying, and are beginning to get that Christmas feeling! It is so good to hear Christmas songs being practiced.
Next Friday (3rd December) is a non-uniform day. The children can wear their own clothes – something festive if they want to, in return for bringing in a tombola item for the Christmas fair. We would appreciate your donations of chocolates, bottles, or Christmas gifts to run the stalls.
Lydia’s sewing extravaganza!
This is Lydia, in Y6. She was gifted a sewing machine for her birthday earlier in the year, and has really thrown herself into making things – this is the stall she ran at last Saturdays’ Artisan market in Page Park. Lydia’s mum says ‘She did so well. She talked to customers, explained her products, took the money and worked out the change. Everyone who came to her stall were completely blown away that she had done all that, at 10, by herself. She was a massive success and sold over 80 items.’
We are really proud of you Lydia, keep up the fantastic work!
Staffing News.
Many of you may know that Mr Griffiths is now living in Gloucester, and has a very young family. He has been successful in securing a teaching post closer to home, and will start his new job in January. The Tynings will be a very strange place without Mr Griffiths around, but we know he has made the right decision for him and his family. Miss Borrowdale-Cox, who is currently teaching Falcons class two days a week, will take over Woodpeckers class full time in January, and will meet the children over the last few weeks of term.
Mrs Davis has also made the decision that she needs to spend time with her family, following her return to school, so will also be leaving us at Christmas. Mrs Dowding will return to working with Kingfishers class full time.
We will miss both Mr Griffiths and Mrs Davis very much and wish them and their families all the very best for the future!
Once our arrangements are finalised for Thursdays and Fridays in Falcons class, I will let you know.

National Grid Hinckley Connection Project
We have recently purchased new programming equipment for EYFS and KS1 using grant money from a successful application we made to the National Grid Hinckley Connection Project. Lots of us have been enjoying using our new rechargeable Beebot floor robots in class this week and making our own obstacle courses for them using the loose parts we purchased to go with them. Loads of fun, problem solving and learning about algorithms through this exploration and play! Thank you National Grid Hinckley Connection Project for this grant!

This week, Kestrels and Squirrels tell us about their book recommendations.
Miss Thomas has chosen 'Little One' by Jo Weaver
“I love this tale of discovery and adventure through the seasons! The illustrations are gorgeous too. Let’s be honest, bear cubs are just the cutest!”
Frank has chosen ‘Say Hello to the Snowy Animals’ by Ian Whybrow and Ed Eaves.
“I love all the animals and the birds.”
Mr Stanton reviews 'Orphans of the Tide' by Struan Murray
"I have always been a fan of fantasy stories and have read many; ‘Orphans of the Tide’ by Struan Murray is absolutely up with the best of them! I could not put this book down because of the interesting characters, fantastic descriptions of the last city in the world, and for the clever story line that is filled with suspense and gripping plot twists. This is the perfect option for key stage 2 readers, looking for a new book to add to their Christmas list!"
William recommends 'Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire' by J. K. Rowling
"All of the Harry Potter books are brilliant but my personal favourite is 'The Goblet of Fire'. The brilliant description and excellent ideas of J.K. Rowling make it a book every child should read. The enthralling plots keep readers coming back for more. Watching the movie is alright but you don’t really know the Tri-Wizard tournament until you read the book. The only problem with it is when I start reading it, I can’t stop."
