Dear parents and carers
It has been full on festive at The Tynings this week, with Y6 attending a carol concert at Clifton Cathedral, our brilliant Christmas lunch, and the Y2/3 performances of ‘Born in a Barn.’
We really must thank all of the kitchen staff for the great food, but also the volunteer PSFA members who came in and decorated the hall, helped children and most of all, cleaned up! It was very much appreciated!
We are looking forward to our Mini Christmas Fair tonight – don’t forget to wear a mask!
Y4, 5, 6 Performance
We are truly sorry to have cancelled this performance, but the anticipated numbers were just too high to be able to adhere to the church's Covid measures. The children will be having a run through on Tuesday morning, during which we will record the songs for you, so that you do have a chance to see your children performing.
The EYFS/Y1 nativity is still able to go ahead, as we have control over this – there are much smaller numbers of children and smaller numbers of parents who will be watching, and our hall is well ventilated. Ultimately, we want everyone to have a safe, healthy and happy Christmas break!
Y6 Staffing News
We have been successful in appointing an experienced Y6 teacher to work on Thursdays and Fridays in Falcons class. Helen Nicholls will be meeting the children next week, and taking up her post fully after Christmas. Helen will be a strong asset to the Y6 team!
PARKING!
This week I have been sent a photo from a neighbour expressing concerns about a red car parking on double yellow lines and the corner of a road, thus causing danger to any of our children crossing. I have also received a message about a white car parking regularly on the zig zags. Please can I urge you to park safely and sensibly – for the safety of our children, and the sanity of our neighbours. May I also remind you that the car park is for staff use only and those holding a blue badge. Please do not use it to drop your children off at breakfast club.
A reminder that Bristol Sports will be running a holiday camp at school during the first week of the break. For more information, please click on the link below.

This week it is the turn of Owls and Kingfishers to give their book recommendations.
Mrs McNeill would like to recommend ‘What Makes Me A Me?’ By Ben Faulks and David Tazzyman.
"This was one of our class books and the children loved it! It is such a fun book, it has rhyme all the way through and it is so funny. We were all laughing out loud, as I read it to the class.
However, it does have a serious message within it, it clearly highlights that we are all special but in our own different ways.
The illustrations are brilliant and I would highly recommend this book, it will make you smile."
Phoebe would like to recommend ‘Ten Minutes To Bed Little Unicorn’ by Rhiannon Fielding and Chris Chatterton.
Phoebe loves this book because it is about Unicorns and it is very exciting!! Twinkle the naughty unicorn goes to see a dragon and he blows golden fire. She nearly gets eaten by a huge, hairy troll! Phoebe really enjoys looking at the colourful pictures and enjoys the ending.
Mrs Dowding recommends 'Wonder' by RJ Pallacio
"An inspiring and uplifting story about a young boy, Auggie, who has a significant facial deformity.
The author cleverly explores the feelings and different points of view of many characters in the story and those within Auggie's life.
I would recommend it to anyone, young and old, but particularly those who feel 'different' and who might sometimes find it tricky to find their place in the world. We are all born to be unique and this story celebrates difference and resilience.
5 stars"
This book is about a boy called Hiccup who is a Viking. He finds a small dragon and then goes on a mission to defeat a giant dragon that settles itself on an island.
Theo said ‘I love this story because it is full of adventure and it is thrilling. There is a cliff hanger at the end of each chapter so you always want to read more!’
Theo gave this book 5 stars!
