Dear parents and carers
This week we have had a local authority monitoring visit…it was extremely positive! The visitors commented on the high quality of teaching, and exemplary behaviour of the children, and just how much progress the children are making in their learning. Thank you to all of the staff for the hard work that they consistently maintain to ensure the school is moving onwards and upwards. Hopefully Ofsted will visit soon!
Local traffic management
I understand that there is a great deal of local commentary about the traffic management around Teewell Hill and Signal Road. The school does not have a position on measures which have been put in place – staff and parents who live around this area have their own views, but the school does not. I have contacted Ian Boulton this week to clarify this. He mentioned there is currently a petition to the Council to get a comprehensive traffic review for the whole neighbourhood to try and address the problems many experience with speeding traffic, pollution and congestion in our area. This seems like a good idea - the link to this is https://council.southglos.gov.uk/mgEPetitionDisplay.aspx?id=45&fbclid=IwAR1ekid5bSWoO2UK__P5ik6nLVM0Xbs2z79qkEY0cGGGsl1P2epTtE2Wj5E
Children’s Mental Health week
We recognise that the pandemic and life in general can often get in the way of our children being emotionally strong and happy, and use our new ‘Weaving Wellbeing’ programme to support children in becoming resilient, happy learners. The week beginning Monday 7th February is children’s mental health week, and we will be taking part in this, beginning with a ‘Dress to Express’ day on the 7th. Children can wear non-uniform, and if they wish to, can wear something which they feel reflects their character and personality – dressing up is encouraged!
We would like to use this as a fundraiser, for our ‘Garden of Hope.’ The ‘Garden of Hope’ will be at the front of the school, and will reflect the past two years living in a pandemic but also remember those we have lost during this time. It will be somewhere to sit and reflect, as well as improve the appearance of the front of the school.
In summary – we are having a non-uniform day on Monday 7th February, and we would like the children to bring in donations to raise money for our special garden. The theme for the non-uniform day is ‘Dress to Express,’ but just ‘non-uniform’ is perfectly fine!
Covid Guidance
….has changed again!! From Monday, you are able to return to school / work on day 6 if you have had a negative LFT on day 5 and day 6. There must be two days of negative results before children return to school, and the first of these tests must not be earlier than day 5. If you are unsure – please contact us for reassurance. Once again, if your child becomes unwell, please test them, either with a lateral flow test, or a PCR. Please look out for cold symptoms, headaches, and just general ‘under the weather-ness.’
On Wednesday 26th January, Aspens will be running a special "Rainbow" menu for lunch. Please see the attached poster for details. Sandwiches will still be available.
