Dear parents/carers
Another very busy term has come to an end! Highlights of this term have definitely been the introduction of the Reading Café, and the stay and read sessions – thank you to all of those parents who came – I look forward to seeing you all at the next Reading Café on Friday 28th February.
Also coming up next term is Sport Relief. On Friday 13th March the children will be asked to come to school dressed in their PE kit, and they will take part in different activities during the course of the day. We are hoping to have a whole school conga amongst other things! World Book day is on the 5th March – look out for information about what we are doing to celebrate this important day in our calendar.
I hope you all have a lovely half term break, and look forward to seeing you on Monday 24th February.
Lois Haydon, Head Teacher
Well done to Holly and Summer who took part in the South Gloucestershire Year 5/6 Sportshall Athletics Representative Games on Wednesday night. They represented the area with distinction and their team came out on top. A huge well done to the girls and thank you to the parents who supported them brilliantly.
Y3 have been making Christian Artefacts with Mrs Symons to support the unit 'What do different people believe about God?' The designs have been excellent.
Aspens will be introducing a salad option to their dinner menu from Monday 24th February. There will be a choice of ham, cheese or tuna, plus salad items from the salad bar.
Please click on the link below for the new menu, which will commence on Monday 24th February. The week one menu will run for two weeks, so that the dates printed on the top of the menu correspond.

This week has been quite challenging, with storm Ciara still battering the grounds on Monday and Tuesday. The decision was taken that for the children’s safety we could not use the usual outside area. Activities did happen indoors and the children’s creativity didn’t seem to be effected too much. Hopefully the weather will settle over the weeks' break and we can look forward to a calmer spring season. Have a great week.
Classes week commencing 24th February:
Monday – Fox
Tuesday – Kingfisher and Hedgehog
Wednesday – Rabbit and Pine Marten.
Recommendations this week come from Mrs Haydon and Mrs Berger.
Mrs Haydon:
"I recently read ‘Can you see me’ by Libby Scott & Rebecca Westcott and it was so good I couldn’t put it down! It is all about a girl named Tally, aged 11, who has autism, and how she copes with moving to secondary school. Within the story, there are also extracts from the diary of Libby Scott, who is also autistic, and has demand avoidance, just like Tally. Tally finds starting secondary school tricky and she and her friends all learn to accept each other for what they are. This is a brilliant book & I would totally recommend it for Year 5 and Year 6."
Mrs Berger:
"Without a doubt, 'Kensuke’s Kingdom' by Michael Morpurgo is one of the best books I have ever read. It is about a young boy called Michael who fights for survival after falling overboard from his parent’s yacht. Packed full of drama, it will have you on the edge of your seat. It even has a dog called Stella in it – another reason for my recommendation!"
Total attendance for the week: 94.9%
Best class attendance: Hedgehogs 100%
Best house attendance: Page 98.1%
Another disappointing week, with whole school attendance slipping into red. There were 6 green classes, but 4 amber and 4 red. Congratulations to Hedgehog class for having another 100% attendance week. Again, there has been a lot of coughs and colds and sickness. Let's all try and start Term 4 with all green classes and lots of 100% attendances!
