Dear parents and carers
Just a short one this week as I have now succumbed to Covid. It really does feel like our school is being hit for the first time in a more serious way. Despite the national agenda, staff will continue to wear masks around the school site, and I would like to urge you to do the same. Where cases occur in classes, we are trying to keep you up to date with this. We have an outbreak in Otters and now in Bats and Kestrels, and for those classes in particular, the guidance recommends that daily LFTs are carried out to help minimise the spread.
Mrs Janet Poole
As mentioned earlier in the term, Mrs Poole is retiring at the end of this term. We would really like to give her a very special, Covid friendly, send off and have plans to make sure all of the children are involved in saying goodbye. We are also beginning a collection, which you are very welcome to donate towards – Mrs Poole is looking forward to spending more time in her garden, so our collection will contribute towards this passion.
Children’s mental health week
Just a reminder that we will be starting our focus on wellbeing with a ‘Dress to Express’ day on Monday 7th February, where the children can wear non-uniform and express who they are. In school we will be carrying out mindfulness, and daily physical activity as just two of the ways to support our children’s mental health.
Community Learning and Skills Service courses
Please find attached flyers for courses run by the Community Learning and Skills Service, which may be of interest.
Usually in Year 6, the children visit the Lifeskills Centre in Bristol, to learn about safety and hazards. In order to run this however, they do need a group of volunteers to lead the safety tours. If this is something you may be interested in, please see the attached leaflet for more information.

A TV production company called Five Mile Films, are the makers of Channel 4’s heart-warming programme The Dog House.
"The Dog House is set at the animal charity Wood Green in Cambridgeshire and has been described as both ‘charming’ and ‘compassionate’. The programme follows prospective owners as they are matched with a rescue dog, specially selected by the expert team of matchmakers at Wood Green. In previous series we have found there are many reasons that people might wish to bring a dog into their lives; loneliness, extra company for a child, to encourage exercise or to live in the moment more! We tell the story of both humans and dogs, as they prepare to meet each other for the first time.
We've begun our search for individuals, friends, couples and families who could offer a rescue dog a loving home and share their story with us as part of our next series.
We’re casting our net far and wide to find potential dog-rescuers! We want to hear from anyone who is seriously considering rescuing a dog and is up for talking to us about why they need a dog in their life."
Book recommendations are back and this week it it the turn of Foxes and Falcons.
Miss Curtis’ Review
"My book recommendation for you this week is a poetry book called, ‘I don’t like Poetry’ by Joshua Seigal. For those who think they don’t like poetry, you MUST give this a read. We have been sharing it in Falcons Class this term – there are some very funny poems which we have read multiple times. They are great to read aloud and share with others. I guarantee that by the end of this read you definitely WILL like poetry!"
Isla – Falcons Class
"I have chosen ‘The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse’ by Charlie Mackesy. It’s a good book because it’s about kindness and when you read it, it gives you ideas on how to be a kind person. I like the words the author has chosen to help the reader understand what kindness is. I really like the artistic and colourful pictures. I would recommend it to KS2 children."
Mr Mead recommends ‘Grandad’s Island’ by Benji Davies.
"I recommend this book because I love animals and the bright and vibrant illustrations make you feel like you are in the rainforest with Syd. The fun plot is about a boy and his Grandad who venture to a tropical island and spend the day doing lots of fun activities. The plot is interesting with a lovely message and there is so much detail on each page you notice something new every time you read it.”
Amelia recommends ‘ Fox in Socks' by Dr Seuss.
“I recommend this book because it is full of fun tongue twisters that are super hard to say. It is really fun to try and read and even funnier when an adult reads it to you. There are exciting characters and interesting events that take place. 10/10.”
