Dear parents and carers
Back to our usual newsletter today! The children look fabulous all dressed up today, whether they are superheroes or non-uniform. There are lots of red noses and hairbands around (and smiley faces, but I think that could be down to the weather too!) All of the children watched the red nose and spoon race which was great fun. Mr Stanton won and received a red nose day t-shirt as his prize. A big thank you to those who took part!
Staple Hill Windows
Last week we gave lots of decorated hearts to the Staple Hill Chamber of Commerce, which the children have made for a special person in their lives. Please look out for them in the windows of the shops along the high street – you might find one dedicated to you!
Blue and Yellow for Ukraine
Our next fund raiser is one requested by the children. In return for donations to the Disasters and Emergency Committee (DEC) the children can dress in blue and yellow for the day on Friday 1st April. Even if you can’t donate, please try and encourage your children to wear blue and yellow to show their support.
Parent consultation evenings
Just a reminder that these are next Tuesday and Wednesday, and that the booking system is live. Y3, 4, 5 & 6 are in the hall, and EYFS, Y1 and Y2 will be in their classrooms. We aim to keep to a strict 10 minute schedule, and would be grateful if you could support us in this by ending your discussions when the bell rings. Thank you
You are also welcome to come and look at your child’s books on the morning drop off on Tuesday and Wednesday next week. It’s a great opportunity to talk with your child about the learning they have been doing.
PSFA
Also next week, on Wednesday 23rd March at 5.30, is the latest PSFA meeting. It would be great to have volunteers attend, to support planning future events. This will be held in Badgers classroom.
Lunchtimes
Some of the older children may have told you that they have returned to the hall for their school lunches this week. Y3 and Y4 now how their lunches in the hall from 12.30-1, and Y5 & 6 have their lunches in the hall from 1 – 1.30. (Their lunch break begins at 12.30) Of course, the younger children have been having their lunches in the hall since September, but it’s good to see this next phase of normality returning!
Covid updates
Whilst we are getting back to a new normal, there are still cases of covid within school. There are no full outbreaks of five cases or more in any one class, but there are currently 12 children absent from school with confirmed cases and this was 19 earlier in the week. It continues to linger, and we continue to follow guidance from the local authority, local public health and the government.
Parent Forum
I would like to reintroduce parent forum meetings, inviting you to come into school and share your thoughts and views on the school, and where we can share ideas for the future. Tea, coffee and biscuits will be available, whilst we chat about what’s best for our school. Our first forum of this year will take place on Wednesday 27th April at 9.00. Everyone is welcome!
Photography club for Years 5 & 6 will recommence on Thursday 24th March after school. There are 3 spaces available, so if you are interested, please let Mrs Berger know.
Please see the attached flyer for webinars being run by the school health nurses.

This week, we hear from Owls and Kestrels with their book recommendations.
Mrs McNeill recommends ‘The Runaway Pea’ by Kjartan Poskitt
"My class love this book, we have read it numerous times and they are now able to read along with me. It is incredibly funny and has lots of very exciting vocabulary. The pea goes on an incredible adventure and the book has rhyming words all the way through. It has become one of my favourite book!"
Niamh from Owls likes 'The Runaway Pea left behind’ by Kjartan Poskitt. It is another book in the adventures of ‘The Runaway Pea’.
“I like this book because he falls out of the shopping bag and he beats the carrots home. I like this book because it makes me laugh and I know most of the words in the story. I also like the pictures because they are funny!”
"I love the ‘Warrior Cats’ book series because there are lots of adventures and friendships along the way. Some of my favourite characters are ‘One Whisker’ and ‘Firestar’ and they have a great friendship and, whenever they meet, they always say ‘Hi’ and are really kind to one another- which I love to read about. The books are amazing and are good to read no matter how old you are. Erin Hunter is my favourite author, and she wrote the books. There are many series of Warrior Cats books, so you will always be busy once you start reading this series. It’s an amazing series!"
