Dear parents and carers
Today the children have really embraced our money raising efforts by wearing yellow and blue to school. So far, we have raised £440. We can’t thank you enough for your generosity. The money will be given to the DEC to support those struggling as a result of the conflict in Ukraine.
Covid guidance – NEW!!!!
From today, guidance for isolating and testing has changed. If children become unwell, they should stay at home until they feel better (as usual.) If you manage to get hold of a test, and they test positive, children now only have to isolate for 3 days. They can return to school after this as long as they feel well enough and do not have a temperature. If adults (staff) are unwell they should stay at home until they feel better; if they test positive, they isolate for 5 days and can return after this as long as they feel better.
I envisage that this may have an impact on our attendance – we are currently seeing peaks and troughs of covid cases. From now on, we just won’t know if anyone is asymptomatic or if unwell children have covid. It is the next phase of returning to normality, but does feel a little scary!
Platinum Jubilee
We will be celebrating Queen Elizabeth’s platinum jubilee with each year group focusing on different aspects of her life and the Royal family. Do you or your relatives have any artefacts that we could borrow from previous jubilee celebrations? For example, for the silver jubilee in 1977 I remember being given a mug and a ‘crown’ coin as a souvenir. (Yes, I am that old!) If you have anything that you are willing to let us borrow, we promise we will look after any items you share. Please bring any items to the office by Friday 6th May. Thank you
John Lewis are holding an art competition for the Jubilee. We have been sent the following information and a poster is attached. If your child wants to take part in this, but you can’t get to John Lewis, please bring in their art work, and I can drop it in for you.
"Get out your art materials to celebrate Queen Elizabeth‘s 70th year reign in a Platinum Jubilee competition for Primary school children. We are looking for children to draw, paint or collage bold, bright and colourful pictures of Queen Elizabeth II to decorate our restaurant, The Place To Eat on the second floor at John Lewis & Partners, Cribbs Causeway.
Our judge will be the well-known Bristol Artist, Jenny Urquhart. Her vibrant feel good paintings are a popular recognisable sight round Bristol & the South-West. Jenny did an amazing vlog on YouTube "Paint Bristol in easy-peasy steps" for children during Covid-19 last year, and is an official Wallace & Gromit artist on the Gromit Unleashed 2 - The Grand Appeal.
There are two age groups who can enter, 4 to 7, & 8 to 11 years old with the chance of winning a prize of a £50 Gift voucher for the winners’ of each of the two age groups. Not only that, but their Primary school will also win £250.
So, we would love pictures of crowns, corgis and of course Queen Elizabeth II on A4 paper or card, using any medium you like, such as paints, pens or collage. The choice is yours and we are looking forward to seeing them on the walls of The Place To Eat, here at John Lewis & Partners, Cribbs Causeway.
Please bring your entries into the store to the Experience Desk on the ground floor, clearly marked with your name, age and School on the back, by end of day Wednesday 1 June 2022"

Parking
Just a reminder (again!) Please do not park on the yellow ‘keep clear’ markings on Penny Lane or Eastleigh Close. I am informed that it is always the same people who choose to ignore the markings, placing the safety of our children at risk. Thank you for your cooperation in this.
Please see the attached poster for information on inclusion coffee and chat sessions.

Love Productions, the makers of The Great British Bake Off and Junior Bake Off, are making a brand-new programme for Channel 4 and are looking to find children to take part in a once in a lifetime wild camping adventure this summer. They are looking for children ages 9-11 from all areas of the country, from a range of backgrounds, abilities and ethnicities and would like to invite the parents of children in years 4, 5 and 6 to put their family forward to take part in this adventure. The experience takes place this summer holiday in a rural location in Britain.
The programme will explore what children are capable of in an outside, wild environment. After the last few years of lockdown, Love Productions think it’s the right time to make a programme about children getting to experience the great British outdoors.
Please note: the children will be under constant supervision by trained chaperones/experts at all times. This project does not involve children taking any time out of school.
It is the turn of Kingfishers and Squirrels to give their book reviews this week.
Miss Thomas recommends ‘Dear Dinosaur’ by Chae Strathie.
“Are you brave enough to write to a T-Rex? This is a deliciously funny interactive story book with letters and cards to open! I love this story because it is bursting with lots of dinosaur facts! Plus, who doesn’t love a Triceratops in a tutu? Enjoy!”
Sofia-Elena has chosen a book she can’t put down! 'Dinosaurs and Prehistoric Life' An Encyclopedia
“Every day we learn a new dinosaur!”
"I love this story about believing in yourself and think everyone – young and old - should read it! The story follows a tiny fly with big dreams who, despite facing challenges, chose to listen to the little voice inside her that told her to keep going. We can all learn a lot from Mabel!"
George from Kingfishers' favourite book is 'Super Good Skills (Almost)' by Tom Gates
“It’s about a boy at school who finds excuses for not doing his homework. He prefers to annoy the people next to him and doodle!
He gets in lots of trouble with his best friend, Derek. It’s really funny and I recommend this book to anyone at school”
