Dear parents and carers
Huge congratulations to our Y5 Jailbreak team this week! Not only did they achieve third place in the competition, narrowly missing qualification by 1 point, they showed amazing sporting behaviour and were awarded ‘Fair play’ certificates. Well done – and thank you to the team for being outstanding ambassadors for our school!
I hope everyone is ready to have a break – the staff certainly are. This term has been another interesting one, managing absences for covid, a nasty stomach bug and a really horrible cold. Hopefully all of these germs will have a break too, and disappear! Thank you for your continued support - have a lovely break, and we will see you back in school on Monday 25th April!
Parent Forum
Just a reminder that we will be having a parent forum on Wednesday 27th April, at 9.00 in the hall. It would be lovely to catch up with you over a cup of tea or coffee, and to have your thoughts on our successes as well as things to address.
Updated Covid Symptom list
The list of typical symptoms of covid has been updated, and can be found via this link

Covid 19 vaccinations for 5-11 years
The NHS is now offering COVID-19 vaccines to children aged 5 to 11 years. Appointments are being held in dedicated children’s clinics across our area and can be booked online via the National Booking Service or by calling 119. Some walk-in clinics are also available and details of these, along with information about all the vaccination options in our area, can be found at www.grabajab.net.
Children’s clinics are being run by GPs, community pharmacies and the Vaccination Centre @ UWE Bristol, where themed child-friendly pods have been created to make the Centre feel welcoming for young children.
Younger children receive a lower (paediatric) vaccine dose. More information about the vaccination and the effects of COVID-19 in young children can be found here.

Hedgehogs and Otters give their book reviews this week.
Mrs Leach recommends 'We Are Family' by Ryan Wheatcroft
"This is a firm favourite in our house. It celebrates the diversity we have as families from all different backgrounds and with all different make ups. The pictures have subtle funny moments hidden in them and the words are all about the love that we have as families. This is a must for your book shelf!"
Blake recommends 'Flip Flap Dinosaurs' by Alex Scheffler.
"Ollie brought this book in to share when we learned about dinosaurs. I have it at home too, and I have the safari one. You can make your own dinosaurs by turning the page. This is my favourite dinosaur. It's a diplodocus head and t-rex legs. It teaches you the names of lots of different dinosaurs."
Mrs Board recommends 'Time Travelling with a Hamster' by Ross Welford
"This book is amazing! I was recommended it by James. A in my class and I read it to my son who is aged 11. We both loved it. It is about a boy who travels back in time to 1984 to try and save his dad’s life. The time machine he used was made by his dad out of a laptop and a tin tub from a garden centre. Not only does Al travel back in time but his hamster does too. The story starts with this opening sentence…My dad died twice. Once when he was thirty-nine, and again four years later when he was twelve….
My son and I were hooked from the start!"
Joshua recommends 'The Shapeshifter: Going to Ground' by Ali Sparkes
"'Going to Ground' is an excellent book in the series. It is finely detailed and there’s always something happening which is very interesting. It is about 12 year old boys and girls going to a special college to learn what their peculiar powers are. It leaves you on cliff hangers after every chapter (especially the very end one)."
