Dear parent/carers,
I hope you all had a good half term – welcome back! There are definitely signs of Spring somewhere out there! We are really looking forward to World Book Day on Thursday next week, and seeing the different potato book characters, as well as having children back in school later in the day for their bedtime story. Don’t forget to book a free place on this via SIMs.
We are having a real push on good manners this term, and have talked to the children in assembly about what this looks like. We have reminded them that we are looking for please and thank you, good morning and good afternoon responses, fantastic walking and calmness around the school – and that they should expect the same from all of the adults in school too. This is having a positive impact, although we will be reminding everyone that this counts at lunchtime too! Staff are making a real effort to recognise those children who demonstrate impeccable manners all of the time.
Some of the children have naturally begun to talk about the Corona virus – we want to keep this as low key as possible in school whilst there is not an imminent threat in this area. If your children begin to mention it at home, it would be really helpful to us if you could chat with them about it, or encourage them to watch some of the news. Please reassure them that it is very much a flu-type virus and that lots of people do recover from it. We are receiving daily updates from the health service or the local authority about what we should be doing, which mostly involves lots of hand washing! Thank you for your support in this, here is a link which you may find useful.

Have a great week!

Head Teacher
With the risk of high winds forecast for Monday, Fox class were offered indoor activities which they appeared to enjoy. A rather wet Tuesday meant only one thing ... mud! Wednesday, thankfully, was mostly dry but a little on the cold side.
The brambles have started to grow everywhere in earnest so some of the children got kitted up with gloves and secateurs to tackle these unwelcome plants before they become too big. All classes, apart from EYFS at the moment, are showing growing independence skills when it comes to snack time – preparing their own drinks and taking turns sharing the biscuits around. Our only problem at the moment is too many volunteers for the washing up ... how often do you get to say that?
Next weeks classes:
Monday - Deer
Tuesday - Woodpecker and Squirrel
Wednesday – Owl and Pine Marten
Squirrels and Pine Martens are recommending books this week:
Miss Thomas’s Book Review of 'Giraffes Can't Dance' by Giles Andreae & Guy Parker-Rees:
"One of my favourite books is all about a keen Giraffe who wants to prance at the jungle dance!
A tiny creature spots this tall Giraffe and helps him find his own song. Soon, all the jungle animals want to dance like Gerald the Giraffe!
This story is full of rhyme and fun illustrations too. It’s the perfect book for reading aloud!"
Jamie from Squirrels Class loves 'Supertato' by Sue Hendra & Paul Linnet:
“It has loads of pages, a few pages are separate. Supertato can fly and the evil pea tries to take the colours but Supertato stops him!”
Mr White chose "A Series of Unfortunate Events" by Lemony Snickett:
"A story of resilience, determination and adventure. An incredible tale with twists and turns at every corner. Reflecting the cunningness, imagination and belief of three siblings and their desire to never be defeated by their uncle. I first started to read this book in Year 4 and have loved it ever since!"
Iris in Pine Martens recommends "War Horse" by Michael Morpurgo:
"I like this book, because it shows you what life can really be like, and the emotion in it is brilliant. I also love the true friendship between man and horse. It is sad but a great book to read and I highly recommend it!"
Love Productions, the company behind The Great British Bake Off, The Great British Sewing Bee and The Great Pottery Throw Down, have recently opened applications for the 6th series of Junior Bake Off; a Channel 4 programme that celebrates the culinary talent and ambition of the younger generation in Britain.
They are looking for young budding bakers between 9 -15 years old. Filming would take place from July 2020, but applications close on Sunday 5th April 2020.

Attendance for the last week of Term 3
Total attendance for the week: 95.8%
Best class attendance: Kingfishers 100%
Best house attendance: Eastleigh & Teewell 96%
Whole school attendance for the last week of Term 3 moved into amber, but there were still 4 amber and 4 red classes, with only 6 being green. Hopefully, the weather will improve soon and we can shake off any lingering colds and sickness bugs! It would be great for every class to be green and to see lots with 100% attendance.
