Dear parents and carers
This week has certainly been less stressful than the last! It has been wonderful to see how well the children are playing outside at lunchtimes now that the field is in action. I have spent time out there every day this week, enjoying the conversations with different children and looking carefully at the play our children engage in….it’s not just football! I have seen some brilliant creative play with the play pod materials, children sitting and enjoying the astro surfaces, and various imaginative games.
Reading café
Thanks to all of those who made it to this morning’s reading café. There was a fabulous buzz around the building, with children and parents enjoying reading together! Pictures have been added to our twitter account. I look forward to seeing Year 2’s café next week!
Jubilee events and activities
We are in the middle of planning our Jubilee focus, celebrating the Queen’s 70th year of service. Our special learning week will commence Monday 6th June, after the long bank holiday and follow on from any celebrations which you may have had over that long weekend. We will be learning about different decades during the Queen’s reign, singing songs, developing our writing skills and of course, creating art work. At the end of the week, we will be having a ‘street party’ for lunch, which will be provided by Aspens. To create a party atmosphere we would like children to dress in red, white and blue on Friday 10th June.
A budding author!
Rose Pitman in Year 3 has been busy writing her own book, and has used Amazon to publish it so that she can fundraise for the World Wildlife Fund! Rose’s book is called ‘Max and Rose and the Giant Spooky Halloween Pumpkin.’ We are all really impressed with Rose’s determination and writing skills – brilliant Rose!
Anyone wishing to read Rose’s book can purchase it from Amazon – it’s worth it!
STAFFING NEWS:
Mrs Butter
As many of you know, Mrs Karen Butter is currently having treatment for cancer. I visited her in the Easter break to see how she was getting on, and on that day she was on good form. However, Mrs Butter has had to take the very difficult decision to leave The Tynings, and retire due to her health. We are devastated with this news, as Mrs Butter is a much valued member of staff, but fully support her decision and of course, we send her love.
Mrs Butter has written this message for you all:
It is with a very heavy heart that I say that I will not be returning to teach at The Tynings.
As you know, I have been living with cancer since 2012 and, sadly, I’m finding the treatment means that I will no longer be able to give 100% to the job that I love.
I have taught at the Tynings from 1991 to 1998 and then since 2011. The Tynings has been a huge part of my life and I have loved teaching here. Teaching has always been my passion and will continue to be. Children are so precious and I have been honoured and privileged to have played a part in shaping their lives.
The whole Tynings team feel like family to me and I am extremely sad to leave. The Tynings is such a special place; the team are incredible, working together to give the children the best school experience and the children are amazing.
I will miss the staff, parents and children but have so many incredible memories.
Sending you my best wishes,
Karen Butter
We hope that Mrs Butter will be able to come into school before the end of this academic year, so that we can all say goodbye, and whilst she does not want gifts, we will be opening a collection for her, which we will donate to Cancer Research or Macmillan Cancer support according to Mrs Butter’s wishes. Mrs Butter would also like a ‘memories’ book, so if you as parents have any special memories of her please send them to me so I can add them to our collection.
Mrs Leach
In other staffing news, I am delighted to let you know that Mrs Leach is expecting her second child in September! We are thrilled with the news, and are looking forward to meeting the newest member of the Leach family.
Parent Forum
We will be holding our parent forum meeting on Thursday 9th June. This will be a good opportunity for you to come in and chat with me about plans for September – and maybe even our Ofsted report if it has been published by then!
