Computing at the Tynings
INTENT:
We recognise computing as an important part of a 21st century child’s skill set. We aim to equip our pupils to enable them to problem solve and use algorithms in a digital world. By the time children leave the Tynings, we aim to give them the opportunity to experience and explore a range of technology and to think critically about what they encounter online.
Tynings Coders are sharp and brave online, exploring technology and widening their skills ready for their digital future.
IMPLEMENTATION:
At The Tynings we deliver the National Curriculum for Computing using a combination of discrete computing lessons focusing upon E-Safety, and a cross-curricular approach to wider computing skills such as programming, data handling and animation.
Each year group focuses upon developing children's programming skills using a different piece of computing software, to ensure that children are able to use a range of resources, for example in Year 1 children will focus on using Beebots and in Year 3 children will focus on programming using Lightbot. We hope to begin to use Barefoot Computing resources shortly to support the teaching of programming. Staff are undergoing training to facilitate this.
Our Progeramming road map shows the progression of skills that each year group builds upon.
E-Safety
We place a huge importance on E-Safety at The Tynings, ensuring that a discrete E-Safety unit of work is taught each year but that these messages are reinforced throughout the year at every meaningful opportunity. Each year we take part in worldwide Safer Internet Day and we have strong links with PCSO's from the local community who come to help us reinforce E-Safety messages during assemblies and to individual year groups if any patterns in childrens' online behaviour are causing us any concern.
In EYFS and KS1 we follow the "SMART rules" for E-Safety:
